DARK ENERGY IN STOCKHOLM For almost one hundred years, the human race has understood that the Universe is expanding. Only recently have we been thunderstruck with the discovery that that expansion is accelerating--a discovery uncovered thanks in part to the Supernova Cosmology Project. As a project member, Brad Schaefer (currently a professor at LSU) served as an observer on the WIYN telescope. His work helped contribute to the revelation of this game-changer in our ultimate fate--and brought him as a guest to the Nobel ceremonies in Stockholm! Brad Schaefer received his Ph.D. from MIT in 1983. He has published several times in "Sky & Telescope" magazine and has been interviewed by the National Geographic Society. Age group served: 14 and up
