North Sherwood Forest Community Park

Grab your fishing pole and Mardi Gras beads and head to the newly renovated North Sherwood Community Park to GEAUX FISHING! BREC Conservation and Outdoor Adventure are joining forces to offer you a fun way to spend your Mardi Gras break. We will stock the pond with adult channel catfish to ensure you have plenty of catch to parade around. Don’t miss this chance to see this newly renovated park and enjoy the day outside with the family. This event is weather dependent. Registration the morning of will also be available.

Rodeo Guidelines

  • 1. Fishing equipment is not provided for this event; we have a select number of fishing poles available with advanced notice but you must bring your own bait, gear and cooler
  • 2. Must abide by current state laws and regulations
  • 3. All anglers age 16 and older must possess a valid LA recreational fishing license
  • 4. HONOR SYSTEM – all fish entered must be caught by that participant
  • 5. One “Angler” award per participant; winners must be present to receive prizes
  • 6. All youth 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times
  • 7. All fish must be caught from shore
  • 8. Each fish may only be entered in ONE category or division
  • 9. All Registrants must check-in on the day of the rodeo and sign a BREC waiver to participate

Jr. Angler (Ages 15 and under)
  • a. Biggest Fish (measured by length)
  • b. Smallest Fish
  • c. Most Fish
2. Adult Angler (Ages 16 and up)
  • a. Biggest Fish (measured by length)
  • b. Smallest Fish
  • c. Most Fish
3. Best Sportsman Award
  • a. This award goes to the individual who showed the best sportsman-like conduct. This includes helping other anglers learn best practices, respecting resources and keeping their fishing area clean and sustainable. Staff will observe anglers during the competition and determine recipient based on actions.

Mardi Gras Toss

BREC Staff and volunteers will parade around the lake to toss out small goodies, tackle and swag. Feel free to join along in the parade!

Activities

Arts and crafts table for kids where they can make their very own fish print!
Try your hand at accurate casting in our casting game where you compete to see who can reel in the most fish.
