BREC to Open New Highland Road Community Park Pavilion with Music Celebration and Family-Fun Events
BREC will hold the grand opening celebration for its new pavilion and park grounds at Highland Road Community Park, 14024 Highland Rd., on Sat. Feb. 1 from 2-5 p.m.
BREC invites the public to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes and enjoy an exciting afternoon of family activities including a live music performance by hit band Blueprint, recreational events, and food trucks as BREC showcases the great features this area of the park has to offer.
In addition to local band favorite Blueprint, guests will also have an opportunity to zip line across the park, ride mountain bikes, play disc golf, participate in a variety of recreational games, and enjoy BREC on the Geaux. Additionally, they will be able to engage in visual presentations and hands-on demonstrations provided by the Highland Road Park Observatory and Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.
The park improvements to be unveiled during the grand opening celebration represent $2.6 million worth of enhancements at the park and include a 3,000-square-foot outdoor grand pavilion to be used for outdoor events, a 2/3 mile concrete walking path loop, four picnic pavilions conveniently located along the walking path, a 300 foot grand promenade, a giant interactive sundial located on the walking promenade, a 1,500-square-foot adult fitness station with seven exercise units, and more than 800 paved parking spaces.
The developments mark the completion of the latest phase of park improvements BREC has made at Highland Road. The next phase will begin this spring and will include a new playground, splash pad, restroom and sitting areas, and overall landscaping to be built next to the existing Highland Road Community Park Recreation Center, along with renovations and improvements to the tennis center.
