BREC is committed to an inclusive approach to recreation. Inclusion consists of individuals with and without disabilities participating in recreation activities in their community. Inclusion makes it possible for individuals to choose from a vast array of programs that BREC offers and promotes the opportunity for people of all abilities to play where they choose.

Inclusive Athletics

Through a partnership with The ARC of Baton Rouge, BREC offers inclusive leagues to participants ages 3 and older, with and without disabilities. These noncompetitive leagues teach the sport, while participants enjoy their peers. Register online at

Upcoming Inclusive Recreation Events

Friends & Family Luau

Individuals with disabilities and their family and friends are invited to attend. Each person is asked to bring a swimsuit and towel.

Sunshine Social

Through partnership with Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, BREC is able to offer themed, monthly socials for adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities and their friends and family. There will be a disc jockey, snacks, door prizes, socialization and fun.

Hearts and Hooves Volunteer Orientation and Fun Day!

Interested in volunteering for Hearts and Hooves, but are nervous about the tasks or don’t fully understand the program? Come learn and have fun at Volunteer Orientation!

Hearts & Hooves Therapeutic Riding Program

Riders ages six and older with physical, mental, and social disabilities participate in a six-week session of riding lessons tailored to their needs. Riders enjoy a one-hour class on horseback learning stretching exercises, basic equitation and games.
