BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation Presents Galveztown: The 2009 Excavations at a Spanish Colonial Outpost in Ascension Parish

BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation (MMP), 2161 Nicholson Drive, presents a lecture by Dr. Robert Mann, Galveztown: The 2009 Excavations at a Spanish Colonial Outpost in Ascension Parish, on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. - noon.

 

Dr. Mann, southeast regional archaeologist at the Louisiana State University Department of Geography and Anthropology, will focus on the recent archaeological investigations at Galveztown, a ca. 1778-1825 Spanish outpost and village on the Amite River in Ascension Parish.  Galveztown was inhabited primarily by settlers and soldiers brought by the Spanish to Louisiana from the Canary Islands.  The 2009 excavations focused on the village area, near the town plaza.
