BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation Hosts a Louisiana Chenier Plain Lecture
BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation (MMP), 2161 Nicholson Drive, presents a lecture by Dr. Chip McGimsey, Louisiana's Chenier Plain: A Unique Geological and Historical Landscape, on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. - noon.
Louisiana's Chenier plains encompass the coastal areas of Cameron and Vermilion Parish. They are a unique geological landscape that exists nowhere else in the United States. Dr. McGimsey, state archaeologist and director at the Louisiana State Division of Archaeology, will explain how this landscape formed, the ecology of the area, and how Native peoples and European settlers adapted to this special landscape.
