At the Santa Maria Golf Academy we do not give lessons, but take students. What this means is we establish long term relationships with our students. We do not just fix hooks and slices, rather we help you reach your full potential as a golfer. The fact is, you can be a great golfer and we can show you the way!
Take your golf skills to the next level and sign up for lessons with instruction by PGA professionals Ryan McGwyer and Chris Burkstaller.
Ryan McGwyer has worked with five of the current Top 100 Teachers in America as determined by Golf Digest magazine and was a member of the Golf Digest Schools teaching staff. McGwyer has served as the Assistant Golf Professional at Doral Resort in Miami, Florida and Whistling Straits - site of the 2004 PGA Championship in Kohler, Wisconsin.
Chris Burkstaller, a Class-A PGA Professional, is also the instructor for the PGA of America's Golf for Business and Life Program at LSU. Some of his past positions include Head Golf Professional at The University Club in Baton Rouge and at Lakewood Country Club in New Orleans. He was also the Assistant Professional at Beau Chene Golf and Racquet Club in Mandeville and at Wannamoissett Country Club in Rhode Island. He most recently held the position of manager at Golf Etc. in Baton Rouge.
Upcoming Events
Camp is open to golfers ages 8-17. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost of camps is $250 per golfer per session. Fee includes all golf fees, range balls, instruction from PGA Professionals, drinks, snacks and lunch following camp each day. We will cover all aspects of the game of golf including putting, chipping, pitching, bunkers, full swing, rules and etiquette. Sign up early as space is limited. Golf 101 Beginners Golf Clinic
March 27-28, 9 a.m. to noon
Have you always wanted to learn the game of golf but were afraid to try? Are you a new golfer just dabbling in the sport and want to get better? If you fall into these two categories, this clinic is for you. Come learn the game of golf in a non-intimidating atmosphere. This clinic will cover the basics: grip, stance, posture and even what end of the club to hold, if necessary.
PGA Professionals Chris Burkstaller and Ryan McGwyer know this game can be tough, but they are here to make it easy. The best part of this clinic is that it's affordable! For only $125, golfers have all of their all instruction, range balls and instructional supplies covered. This clinic is for men and women over the age of 21. Come learn the game of a lifetime in a fun, relaxed environment!

Player Development Program

Take care of the people that take care of you. You give us a date, we set up a personalized instruction clinic and tee times. Also included is a food and beverage reception, following golf, in the clubhouse overlooking the 18th hole.
