Activities for Adults
The BREC adult leisure program has expanded, adding new centers, new programs and new participants. We want to help put fun in your life by providing opportunities that you may not have had time for before now. Adult leisure programs are diverse and widely distributed throughout the parish. All centers have supervisors who implement programs that include some variety of exercise, community events, arts & crafts, sports, hospitality, learning topics, tours, and holiday parties. Take a look at our center calendars and register for activities that appeal to you by calling the nearest center.

Adult Tea Dances
BREC's Adult Tea Dances are held every Tuesday afternoon, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., in BREC's Administration building (Ballroom) located at 6201 Florida Blvd.. Refreshments and live entertainment are provided. The cost is just $4.00 per person. Special themed Holiday Tea Dances are offered eight times a year for no additional cost. Red Stick Croquet Club
This high-spirited group gets together every Wednesday and Saturday mornings to play croquet at City Park, 1442 City Park Ave. Beginners welcome to join the group. Please call (225) 926-4659 for more information.
Jefferson Hwy. Computer Class:
Classes on Saturdays will alternate months of basic or Email and Internet. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday classes are offered as needed.

Class fees are $30 for in-parish residents and $35 for out-of-parish residents.

Cirque Dreams Illumination at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre, New Orleans
Audiences of all ages experience a journey of city-dwellers that reinvent everyday objects, balance beyond belief, delicately dangle from wires, leap tall buildings and redefine the risks of flight.
Cost is $137 per person
Trip is scheduled for October 2, 2010.

China Grove Methodist Church Tour and Washington Parish Fair
China Grove Methodist Church and Cemetery: Originally a slave gallery, the China Grove Methodist Church was accepted into the National Register of Historical Places in 1984. The period of significance is listed as 1850-1874. The cemetery is reminiscent of the old city cemeteries in New Orleans, such as Lafayette or St. Louis cemeteries, but absent of the mausoleums or wall vaults.
97th annual Washington Parish Free Fair: This is the second oldest parish fair in Louisiana. In addition to all the fair attractions, there is an authentic historical pioneer village, "The Mile Branch Settlement." Visitors are welcomed by costumed hosts and experience a trip into the pas as various log cabins and buildings are filled with antiques and hospitality.
Trip is scheduled for Oct. 22, 2010.
Bus departs from 8133 Jefferson Highway at 8 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m.
Price is $77 per person and includes guided tour of China Grove Methodist Church and Cemetery, catfish buffet at Popwells' Family Restaurant, the 97th annual Washington Parish Free Fair and trip transportation.
