Independence Community Park

7500 Independence Boulevard
225-928-7860 Recreation Center
225-923-2792 Tennis Center
96.02 acres

This park is located east of Government Street at Lobdell Avenue, south of Florida Boulevard and north of Goodwood Boulevard. It is one of BREC's most popular and busiest parks, because of the number of facilities available. The park has a recreation center, a tennis center, a shuffleboard area for senior citizens, soccer fields, ball diamonds, a model airplane field, a handicapped playground area, the Botanic Gardens and Garden Center, picnic facilities and a children's forest. It is also the site of BREC's annual Holiday in the Park.

The perimeter of the park is lined with hundreds of American flags. Bows provided by Billy Herroman's Florist are occasionally placed on the flag poles.

The newest addition to the park, the Independence Park Theatre & Cultural Center, was officially opened on February 13, 2001.
