2009 Halloween Tennis Mixer Photos

Baton Rouge Named in Top 10 Best Tennis Towns!!!

Baton Rouge was presented a plaque on September 17 for being named one of the Top 10 Best Tennis Towns by the USTA.  The plaque was presented jointly to the Greater Baton Rouge Tennis Assocation and BREC for submitting the nomination.  Pictured below left to right:  Tonnette McMorris, BREC Area Assistant Supervisor, Yvette Marshall, BREC Tennis Manager, Kyle Ferachi, GBRCTA President, Judy Thibodeaux, BREC Department Coordinator and Mike McNulty, Executive VP for Southern Tennis Assocation.

BREC has five major tennis centers which feature pro shops, lighted courts, racquet stringing, instruction, and racquet and ball machine rentals.

Neighborhood Tennis Courts
BREC has numerous neighborhood tennis courts located throughout the parish.  Neighborhood courts are open to the public and are free of charge.  Click here for a listing of BREC tennis courts.  This list shows name of park, park address, number of courts lighted/unlighted, as well as staffed tennis centers.

Programming
BREC's Tennis Centers offer a variety of programming for youth and adult players.  Programs for the youth include two year-round tennis academies (Independence and Highland Parks), QuickStart tennis, tournaments, after-school programs, and Holiday camps.  Adults can sign up for cardio tennis, adult fun tournaments and leagues.  Individual and group instruction for various skill levels is provided by certified tennis instructors.  For more information about BREC's tennis programs, call the Tennis Department at 225-272-9200 Ext. 549.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Jr. Tennis Camps
Play some tennis during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays at any of our Holiday Jr. Tennis Camps offered at City Park, Highland Park and Independence Park! Click the link for all the details.

Evening Adult Ladies Tennis Clinic at City Park Tennis Center
For all skill levels.  Clinic includes singles strategy, doubles strategy, mental strategy, stroke construction and much, much more!  Friday, November 20, 2009; 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.  Click here for registration form and more details. 

2009 City Park Open House Jr. Round Robin Tournament
Great tournament for beginners!  Singles and doubles.  Friday, December 4, 3:30 pm - 10:00 pm.  Division 8 and 10 and under play singles in the QuickStart Format.  Other divisions offered are:  12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under, which all play 10 point set format.  Registration deadline is Friday, November 27.  Entry fee is $5.00 per person; $2.50 for doubles.  For more information and registration form, click here.

2010 City Park Tennis Home School Tennis Program
Six week program designed especially for home-schooled children, ages 5-17.  Program starts January 13 and runs through February 17, 2010.  Meets each Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Deadline to register is Friday, January 8, 2010.  Click here for an informational flyer that contains more details and here for the registration form.

2009 FALL JR. TENNIS ACADEMIES
Highland Park Jr. Tennis Academy begins Tuesday, August 18.  Click here for the brochure and registration form.

2010 SPRING JR. TENNIS ACADEMIES

Independence Park Jr. Tennis Academy begins Monday, January 18, 2010.  Semester discount special for early registration.  If you sign up by Monday, January 4, 2010 you receive a 10 % discount on the Spring semester rate.  Click here for the brochure and registration form.

Highland Park Jr. Tennis Academy begins Monday, January 4, 2010.  One-time early registration discount if you register by Monday December 21, 2009, you receive a 10% discount on Spring semester rate.  Click here for the brochure and registration form.

2010 Winter Novice Tennis League at Highland Park Tennis Center

2009 Fall City Park Open House Series for Juniors
Fall Series starts August 15 and runs through December 19. (**No play on Saturday, Nov. 14.**)  Meets each Saturday morning 8:30am - 10am.  For ages 6 - 16.  FREE.   For more details, click here.

2009 Late Fall Cardio Tennis at Capital One-City Park Tennis Center
Get fit, have fun, improve your tennis game this fall!  For players of all skill levels. Class meets Monday mornings, 8:30 am - 9:30 am, beginning November 2 and running through December 14.  $12 per session.  Click here for more details and registration form.

Independence Tennis Novice Leagues
Just learning how to play tennis? Want some fun competition as well as instruction? Then Novice League is for you!  Want more of a challenge than the Novice League?  Haven't played in a while and want to get back in the swing?  Then Novice Plus League is for you!  Six weeks of match play with on-court instruction.  Novice League meets on Mondays from 6-8pm.  Novice Plus meets Thursdays from 6-8pm.  Limited spaces available, so register soon!  Learn the details here, including starting dates for both leagues for 2009.  Click here to download registration form.
