11.20.09 - Submit Photos of Your BREC Experience: Photos to be used for a new magazine set to premier January 2010
The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC) is requesting photographs of your experience at any of BREC's parks, events or programs for its new magazine, Greenscapes.

11.18.09 - 2010 Budget Approved
The Commission unanimously approved the budget for 2010 at their regular meeting held November 18 at 5 p.m.

11.18.09 - BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation Presents a French Creole Christmas Celebration
BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation, 2161 Nicholson Dr., will light up the holiday season by hosting an old fashioned French Creole Christmas Celebration on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 3-6 p.m. The bonfire begins at 4:30 p.m.

The park is open on the weekends for our canine friends.

BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation (MMP), 2161 Nicholson Drive, offers a two-day Historic Fall Holiday Camp on Nov. 23 and 24 from 8:30 a.m.  4:30 p.m.

11.05.09 - Name the Baby Rhinoceros! BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo Begins Contest Nov. 9
On Sept. 28, the Baton Rouge Zoo welcomed the first black rhino baby in the zoos 39-year history. Now, we invite you to name her! The rhino naming contest begins Nov. 9. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Nov. 20.

Ladies, get your golf clubs ready! BREC invites all female golfers to participate in the Baton Rouge Ladies Amateur Championship on Nov. 14 and 15 at BREC's Webb Memorial Golf Course, 1351 Country Club Drive.

11.04.09 - City-Brooks Community Park Hosts Sony Pictures' Battle: Los Angeles This Week
Except for the golf course, all of the park's facilities are open to the public. Parking is available only for tennis players.

BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation (MMP), 2161 Nicholson Drive, presents a lecture by Dr. Chip McGimsey, Louisiana's Chenier Plain: A Unique Geological and Historical Landscape, on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. - noon.



10.22.09 - Baton Rouge Gallery's Saturday Morning Cartoons Workshop Teaches Drawing Techniques to Youth
Have you ever wanted to create your own comic strip? If so, then register for Baton Rouge Gallery's Saturday Morning Cartoons, a workshop that teaches youth (ages 8-13) basic drawing techniques, how to draw people, animals and various characters. The workshop is scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays (Nov. 7, 14, 21) from 9:30 a.m.-noon at BREC's Womack Administrative Building, 6201 Florida Blvd.

On Monday, June 1, BREC, the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, invites the public to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for BRECs Forest Community Park, 13900 S. Harrell's Ferry Rd., located just south of Millerville Rd. and Interstate 12. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the grassy area in the center of the park where the road splits to a one-way loop.
