24 October = “The Spooky Sampler” One week from Halloween…this lecture slot will be used to highlight a smorgasbord of unsettling stories, images and theories—for our adult audience.
14 November = “The Shackleton Expedition” The only continent never permanently settled, Antarctica is brutal to visitors. Ernest Shackleton and his crew experienced an astounding and terrifying adventure as their ship Endurance crossed the Arctic Circle just before the beginning of 1915. Amy Northrop speaks on one of the most courageous treks ever undertaken on planet Earth.
5 December = “Buying Skygazing Equipment” BRAS member (and asteroid discoverer) Merrill Hess heads this personnel-driven overview of this year’s economic landscape for binoculars, telescopes, flashlights, eyepieces and filters.
19 December = “Wonders of the Winter Sky” BREC Education Program Specialist Amy Northrop will take the audience on a fascinating tour of Baton Rouge’s winter season. She’ll highlight the celestial gems that will sparkle throughout the next three months—gems visitors will be able to see live if they continue to visit HRPO!
