Adult Interactive Days Come out and enjoy recreational days in your parks, for adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities ages 16 and older.

A four-week program for adults who want to fine tune their game.

Art Imagination

Participants will create arts and crafts projects after receiving inspiration from reading and/or hearing an illustrated story from a book, movie, poster or other medium.

Art Stars Dance Program

This program focuses on performance enrichment that is dedicated to promoting self-awareness, creative expression, imagination, teamwork and basic body/health awareness

Astronomy Lecture Series

For over 20 years, this program has given patrons histories and possible futures. Skygazing tips, physics phenomena, space programs and famous events are covered.

Ballet, Tap and Jazz: Highland

Participants learn a series of modern dance including ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap techniques. This program runs from Sept. 2018-May 2019, ending with a recital in May where students will showcase their learned dance abilities. There are dance costumes that must be purchased in addition to the program fees and dance recital tickets. These dance routines focus on technical skills and dance ability in one-hour class segments per age group. The classes are broken down into ages groups, starting at age 4 and older, as well as levels such as Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced.

Participants learn a series of modern dance including ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap techniques. Beginner Adult Tennis Instruction: Highland

This four-week program for beginners introduces and reinforces fundamental tennis techniques.

Beginner BMX Park Clinic

No training wheels, must be able to ride a bike without assistance, bikes available onsite or bring your own! This clinic is geared toward beginner BMXers and teaches the fundamentals of BMX park riding with an experienced BMX instructor.

Beginner BMX Track Clinic

No training wheels, must be able to ride a bike without assistance, bikes available onsite or bring your own! This clinic is geared toward beginner BMXers and teaches the fundamentals of BMX track riding with an experienced BMX instructor. No bike or helmet needed as we have equipment on site

Belly Aerobics

This class offers a fun, low-impact workout that incorporates belly dance movements including warm-up, stretching and toning with light weight dumbbells and stretch bands.

Birds and Beyond

BREC Conservation and Outdoor Adventure are joining forces to offer you a great birding adventure! Join BREC naturalists and local bird experts on a journey to see all that our local waterways have to offer! You will get the full safari experience by kayak on the lower Amite River, where you can view our parish’s different habitats and wildlife. Birds will be the focus, but no creature is off limits as we explore the food chain that supports local bird communities. Participants are expected to have basic paddling skills. This event is weather dependent and registration is limited to kayak availability.

BREC-A-Boo: Forest

Fly over on a broom or float like a ghost, just don’t be tardy to the party! All ages, come dressed in your costume of choice, and be prepared to load up on ghouls of fun and recreational experiences. There will be a children’s village for ages 8 and under to experience Halloween themed carnival games, character visits, arts and crafts, as well as karaoke in the amphitheater. For those who dare, the guided Haunted Hike will begin at dusk for $3 per person. The guided hike is recommended for ages 8 and older and if under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. At 7 p.m., we will gather all for a costume contest, so make sure your costume will impress the judges. If you leave your snacks at home, do not fear - food vendors will be near, for purchase.

Bridge

Hone your competitive nature and make new friends with BREC’s Bridge program. Bridge is a four player trick-taking card game, where two competing teams have partners sitting opposite each other.

Burning Bootcamp: Anna T. Jordan

Looking for a recreation class to experience a high-intensity, full-body workouts while burning calories and socializing with your peers? This boot camp class targets major muscle groups by using a circuit-style routine. These routines will definitely jump-start your cardio fitness, while creating and toning muscles through exercises using your own body weight, dumbbells and exercise bands.
