Families are invited to step on to the green and play in the 2009 BREC Adult-Child Scramble. This event will take place on Sunday, June 21 at the following locations: The First Tee EBRP at J.S. Clark, 2301 Thomas Rd; Howell Park Golf Course, 5511 Winbourne Ave; and Santa Maria Golf Course, 18460 Santa Maria Pkwy.

BREC and the Greater Baton Rouge Tennis Association (GBRCTA) have partnered to nominate Baton Rouge as the "Best Tennis Town in the Nation." This competition is sponsored by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and is open to cities across the country.

06.03.09 - Pets Join the Trails at BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp
Many people with pets enjoy long walks and nature excursions with their pets by their sides. On Saturday, June 20, BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, 10503 N. Oak Hills Pkwy., invites pets to visit the swamp, with their owners of course, for Dog Day at the swamp. Dogs, cats or any pet can enjoy the swamp from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

On Monday, June 1, BREC, the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, invites the public to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for BRECs Forest Community Park, 13900 S. Harrell's Ferry Rd., located just south of Millerville Rd. and Interstate 12. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the grassy area in the center of the park where the road splits to a one-way loop.

02.06.09 - New Dog Park Under Construction
East Baton Rouge Parish residents love dogs. A 2001 survey showed that for every 100 households, there are 79 dogs. These residents with four-legged family members will be pleased to know that a new BREC Dog Park is under construction. The new dog park is being built at Burbank Park, 12400 Burbank Dr., which already houses 12 tournament-ready soccer fields.
