Krewe De Zoo 

BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo

Feb. 2- Feb. 17 

Celebrate Mardi Gras with a wild twist through our annual Krewe de Zoo Hang Tag Program! Now in its second year, this colorful campaign invites guests to “join the krewe” and show their love for the Zoo’s amazing animals. 

 

Tea Time + Canvas Creations

Tea Time Canvas Creations is a relaxing, creative, spiritual event where art and faith come together for a delightful Art Adventure. It's a special gathering to connect through creativity and faith while enjoying the soothing sounds of worship as they paint their personal masterpiece. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this event offers the perfect blend of creativity, comfort, spirituality, and community.

 

Sweet Tooth Designs  

Feb. 3 - Ben Burge Park / 6-7 p.m. 

Feb. 12 Church Street Park / 5:30-7 p.m.  

Learn the basics of decorating and creating a work of art cookie while enjoying a delicious cookie treat. All participants will get to take their cookie home to show their family. 

 

Storytime 

Jefferson Hwy. Park 

Feb. 4 / 10 a.m.-noon 

Join us for Storytime, where books come to life and imaginations soar! Designed for children ages 3–8, but open to all, this engaging program combines read-aloud stories with interactive fun, crafts, and movement activities that bring each tale to life. Each month features a new theme and a carefully selected book that sparks curiosity, encourages creativity, and helps build early literacy skills.

Join us for a Valentine extravaganza! This love-filled day includes heart-themed enrichments for our beloved animals throughout the day! 

 

Shades Of Greatness: A Celebration Of Black Art + Culture 

Independence Park Theatre + Cultural Center  

Feb. 7 / 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 

Join BREC’s Independence Park Theatre for a full day of inspiration, creativity, and community as we honor Black History Month through art, culture, and connection. The celebration begins with a morning program featuring storytelling, music, and tributes to Black history’s most influential leaders, thinkers, and creators. Guests will enjoy a light breakfast and inspiring performances that highlight the beauty and strength of Black heritage. 

 

HeaArt in the Park II  

Kernan Ave. Park  

Feb. 7 / 10 a.m.-noon 

Join us for a pre-Valentine’s Day celebration full of creativity and fun! Participants of all ages can make their own take- home art projects and help create a special community artwork that will be displayed on the gym wall. It’s the perfect way to share the love, get creative, and make some heart-filled memories in the park! Registration not required. 

 

You Stole a Pizza My Heart [TEENS] 

North Sherwood Forest Community Park 

Feb. 12 / 5-6:30 p.m. 

Celebrate Valentine’s season with homemade pizzas, fun rounds of bingo, and real talk about healthy relationships. Bring your appetite, your game face, and your friends for a night of food, fun, and Valentine vibes! 

 

Zoo + Me Mornings: Hearts and Flowers 

BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo

Feb. 14 / 9:30-11:30 a.m. 

Held the second Saturday of the month, Zoo staff designed this program for children accompanied by a parent or guardian. Programs incorporate many exciting activities including a train ride, animal encounters, art projects and “zooper” snacks that adults and children can enjoy together. 

 

STEM Saturdays 

Feb. 14 - Cadillac Street Park

9-11 a.m. 

Join BR STEM on select Saturdays for exciting, hands-on STEM adventures! Each month,+ attendees will immerse themselves in unique hands-on activities that will bring STEM to life. 

 

Sweetheart Soiree 

Forest Community Park 

Feb. 14 / 6-10 p.m. 

Join us for an evening at BREC’s Sweetheart Soirée at Forest Community Park. Enjoy live music from Christina Rogers, a comedy show by Joken Brady, great food, interactive games, and a full cash bar in a warm and inviting atmosphere. With our playful Pop the Balloon game for singles, this soirée is the perfect chance to mingle, connect, and celebrate the season of love. 

 

Mardi Gras Holiday Camp

You asked and we listened! Join us for three days of le bon temps rouler! This three-day camp will highlight traditions, art and history of our state’s infamous Mardi Gras through paint, pastels, collage and mixed media. We will have a good time with lots of creativity and cultural fun! 

 

Homeschool Connection 

Jefferson Hwy. Park 

Feb. 18 / 10 a.m.-noon 

Homeschool Connection is a dynamic, recreation-based enrichment program designed to support homeschool families through hands-on learning, social connection, and active fun! This program offers a welcoming space where children can explore, create, and grow alongside peers in a supportive community environment. 

 

Clay Sweeties: Date Night X2 

Drusilla Lane Park 

Feb. 20 + 27 / 6-8 p.m. 

Great for couples and fun for friends! This Valentine inspired clay class will allow participants to throw a mug, bowl and/or hand build a vase on night one and then come back on night two to paint and glaze your fired piece! The final pick up is Saturday Morning. 
Nibbles, sparkling waters, and juices are included. Class taught by ceramicist, Sandy Parfait. 

 

Sunshine Socials: Be Mine Bash 

Milton J. Womack Park Ballroom 

Feb. 20 / 6-9 p.m. 

Dance the night away with BREC Adaptive and Families Helping Families as we host our monthly Sunshine Socials. Be creative and dress to match each month’s theme. Enjoy dinner, dancing, and door prizes. 

 

Geaux Fish! Catfish Rodeo 

Zachary Community Park 

Feb. 21 / 7:30-11:30 a.m. 

 

Grab your fishing pole and head out with the family to GEAUX Fish! Our “Geaux Fish!” Rodeos are a great opportunity to introduce new anglers to the sport or for the experts to test their skills. For each rodeo, we stock the pond with adult channel catfish to ensure you have plenty of fish to catch and prizes to win.  Don’t miss this chance to bring home catfish for dinner and spend the day outside with your family! This event is weather-dependent. Early registration is highly recommended to secure a spot. BREC has a limited number of rods and reels that can be rented for free at the event on a first-come, first-served basis. We will not be providing bait, just hooks, weights, and bobbers as needed. 

 

Friday Night Adult Tennis Mixer  

Capital One Tennis Center At City-Brooks Community Park 

Feb. 27 / 6-8 p.m. 

Come have a fun evening of adult doubles play!  Divisions:  Novice, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0.  Round robin format.  Timed rounds.  Partners assigned and switched after each round.  Light snacks provided.  Prizes awarded to winner of each division.  $21 per person.  Registration Deadline:  Monday, Feb. 23.  Instructor:  Ojo Thompson.

Art Expeditions! Art Adventure at the Observatory 

Highland Road Park Observatory 

Feb. 28 / 12:30-2 p.m. 

Learning about the sun’s solar maximum and minimum times of the year, participants will view the sun to see sunspots and solar flares! They will then meet to create a visual piece of art using oil pastels to illustrate what they saw.
