Celebrate Mardi Gras with a wild twist through our annual Krewe de Zoo Hang Tag Program! Now in its second year, this colorful campaign invites guests to “join the krewe” and show their love for the Zoo’s amazing animals.
Storytime

Join us for Storytime, where books come to life and imaginations soar! Designed for children ages 3–8, but open to all, this engaging program combines read-aloud stories with interactive fun, crafts, and movement activities that bring each tale to life. Each month features a new theme and a carefully selected book that sparks curiosity, encourages creativity, and helps build early literacy skills.
Zoo + Me Mornings: Warm + Fuzzy
BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo
January 10 / 9:30-11:30 a.m.

This program is designed for 3-to-5-year-old children accompanied by a parent or guardian. Every Zoo & Me Morning incorporates exciting activities, including animal encounters, art projects, "Zooper" snacks, and many other hands-on projects that you and your child can enjoy together.

These exciting one-day classes are tailor-made to instruct the patron in the use of a personal telescope or binocular for skygazing, or the basics of the unaided-eye Baton Rouge sky. Sign up for one or more!

Homeschool Connection is a dynamic, recreation-based enrichment program designed to support homeschool families through hands-on learning, social connection, and active fun! This program offers a welcoming space where children can explore, create, and grow alongside peers in a supportive community environment.
Blueprint for Change [Teens]

Start the new year by creating your own Blueprint for Change—a hands-on teen workshop focused on goal setting, vision boards, and journaling. This program is all about helping you dream big, get organized, and stay motivated while exploring who you want to be and where you want to go.
Swamp Art Soiree
Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

Celebrate the art featured in Bluebonnet Swamp's 6th Annual Swamp Art Spectacular! This reception is free, after hours and located at the education center. Light refreshments will be provided, including wine and beer. This event is only for those 18 and up.

BREC Art is proud to collaborate with Line 4 Line, a nonprofit organization that promotes literacy through diverse books designed to engage, inspire and connect. Each session features a beautifully illustrated and written children’s book. Students will create a piece of art based on the message of the book and take home both their art and the book! Thanks to Line 4 Line’s book donations, this class is free – but registration is required.
Tire Stack Attack
Monte Sano Park

Are you TIRE-d of seeing trash dumped in our parks? Join us this winter to wrangle some wheels at Monte Sano Park, where we are remediating illegal tire dumping through the help of the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Communities Grant. Volunteers will help us stack tires to prepare them for removal -- the more hands, the better! Gloves and all necessary tools will be provided.
STE(A)M Bridge Building
Baringer Road Art Center

Because bridges are made to go over water, valleys, roads and houses, they need to be built strongly but also safely. Join BREC Art for our first STEM class with graduating Industrial Engineering student, Stephen Barker. “Mr. Stephen” (camp favorite!) will explain the physics and design of bridge building as students build their own bridge using mixed media and 3-D printed pieces.
