Swamp Birthday Party

Happy Birthday Bluebonnet Swamp! We’re celebrating 21 years of connecting people to nature on Saturday, May 19. Come hang out with our critters and enjoy a stroll on the trails. We’ll have live animal encounters, crafts, games, and birthday cake while it lasts. Best of all, admission is on us!

Swamp Dog Days

With our Dog Days, BSNC drops its “no pets” policy and opens its doors and trails to pets four days out of the year! All pets are welcome, but they must be on a leash and have their vaccinations current.

Swamp School

Picking up where Trail Time for Toddlers leaves off, Swamp School continues nature-based education for ages 6-10.

Table Tennis

Table tennis keep is a great way to stimulate mental alertness, concentration and tactical strategy. This makes it the perfect game for seniors! Table tennis also develops mental acuity, improves reflexes, is easy on the joints, burns calories, offers a social outlet, improves balance, and stimulates various different parts of the brain.

Tai Chi

Looking for a pain reliever that doesn’t involve medicine? Join us to learn Tai Chi: an ancient therapy which relieves pain, fights depression, promotes deep breathing, lowers blood pressure, and Improves balance.

Tang Soo Do

The Korean martial arts form of the “way of the open hand.”

Tea Dance: Milton J. Womack

The Tea Dance is BREC’s most popular program for seniors. Each week you will enjoy live entertainment, lite refreshments and plenty of dancing as you meet new friends and catch up with familiar faces.

Teen Sunshine Socials

Through a partnership with Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, BREC is able to offer themed, monthly socials for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities and their friends and family. There will be a disc jockey, snacks, door prizes, socialization and fun.

The Great Family Campout

Grab a tent and enjoy an evening being active with other families, make a s'more, sleep under the stars and wake up refreshed in a beautiful BREC park!

Tiny Steps

This mother’s day out program includes organized recreational games, creative art projects, singing and dancing, while socializing with peers. This program also promotes physical fitness and health through exercise and fun. Healthy snacks are provided through a partnership with Big Buddy.

Trail Time for Toddlers

Trail Time for Toddlers is a unique opportunity for children, ages 2-5, and their parents/guardians to make new friends while learning about nature through trail walks and themed indoor and outdoor activities. Come enjoy the sights and sounds of the swamp, arts and crafts, storytelling, animal encounters and healthy snacks.

Trivia Mixer

Test your knowledge of all things Superstitions on this Friday the 13th! Gather your team ahead of time or join others at a table to create a team of up to 8 members. Appetizers, soda, wine and beer will be served and prizes will be awarded. Each participant will receive two free drink tickets.


Instructors will teach basic tumbling skills, flexibility and self- confidence with an emphasis on safety and proper techniques

Walk & Talk: Hooper Road

This program is designed for adults to interact with each other in BREC’s beautiful Hooper Road Park. Staff will participate with adults ages 55 and older as you set goals to maintain your healthy lifestyle. Stay fit while getting a brisk outdoor walk!

The Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program is an exercise program that can reduce pain and improve overall health. If you can be on your feet for 10 minutes without increased pain, you can have success with Walk With Ease.

Join us for a free event for military veterans, active duty service members, first responders and their immediate family members. Must present valid military ID or first responder identification at admission gate.

What's My Profession?

This program for young adults offers specifics regarding different careers. This program will allow the participants to try and find a career that fits with their personal goals and objectives. Opportunities include meeting teachers, plant workers and medical professionals.

Yoga Classes

Yoga will allow the participants to experience relaxation, flexibility and core balance through a combination of breathing exercises, physical postures and meditative techniques.
