Pickleball: Plank Road

Learn how to play the sport that is taking the nation by storm as it is combines badminton, tennis and table tennis and can be played by any age. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but be prepared as it can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

Pool Tournament

Did you know that playing pool helps develop focus, burns calories and stretches your muscles? Plus it is fun! BREC offers tournament games on a rectangular cloth-covered table with raised cushioned edges, for neighborhood pool players. Challenge your friends and make new ones as you improve your skills on the pool table

Positive Teens: Mills Ave

BREC designed this program to cultivate and empower teens to become community leaders. Participants will learn job development skills, such as how to apply for a job, interview skills and other skills that can assist them in becoming productive citizens when they graduate from high school. Facilitated by Community Leaders.

Revive Your Mind Hike

Forest bathing, Nature Rx, Ecotherapy, Green Peace…it’s been called many things but the message is the same, NATURE is good for you! If life has you spinning and you feel out of balance this is the hike for you. We will use time in nature to slow down and take a break through mindful, purposeful observation. We will hike off the beaten path at BREC’s largest Conservation Area using the outdoors as a window to relaxation and a free mind.

Science Academy

"Cadets" are brought into the wonderful world of astronomy to explore gravity, simple machines, stars, spacecraft, meteors, the Earth and the Moon, asteroids and comets, the electromagnetic spectrum and the American space program! Each session is stand-alone; commitment need not be made to attend attend multiple sessions. Registration deadlines are the dates of each session.

Senior Leisure & Game Day

This program is a combination of two previous programs: Walk 2B Fit Senior Walking and Recreation Game Days. Participants start their morning with a lap or two around the walking track and then move into the facility where they are provided with various games (bingo, dominoes, puzzles, etc.) The program activities are lead by the Seniors attending the program.

Short Game Clinic for Intermediate Level Players

This is a chipping and putting clinic for players that are advancing beyond the beginner stage or who have gone through the First Swing clinics.

Chipping and Putting clinic for beginners & newcomers (First Swing) and Intermediate Level players. Specifically for Seniors, conducted by PGA Teaching Pro.

Short Game First Swing and Intermediate Level for the Public

Putting and Chipping clinic for both beginners and intermediate level players. Designed to prepare golfers for the Spring taught by a PGA Teaching Pro. Ideal for couples. Also geared to prep golfers interested in League play.

Silver Spokes

Join us for this exciting senior biking program. We offer seniors a chance to maintain their fitness, lift their spirits and enjoy a social experience with others as they ride special designed cruisers or three-wheeled adult trike bikes, in our community parks and trailways. You can also bring your own bike if you wish. You can pre-register for this monthly program.

Sit 2B Fit: Chair Aerobics

Do you need a lower impact aerobics routine that is easy on the joints? Then join Sit 2b Fit and move and groove in your seat! This is a video instructed class. In partnership with Pride Port Hudson Association.

Solar Viewing

Weather permitting on selected Saturdays, HRPO staff shows the Sun in three manners—projected onto a white surface, directly via safely-filtered optical light and directly with a hydrogen-alpha telescope. With these techniques, visitors are able to see any sizable sunspots or flares occurring. Don’t miss the highest level of solar activity for the next 10-20 years. Protective clothing and sunscreen recommended.

Spanish/ESL

This is an English as a Second Language class for beginners. These beginner-level classes are designed for people who use a primary language other than English and are interested in learning important skills to communicate in English Estas clases se ofrecen a niveles básicos. Las clases están diseñadas para gente que no habla inglés como su primer idioma y que están interesadas en aprender términos básicos para poder comunicarse en el idioma inglés.

Stick Horse Rodeo

Participants will compete in rodeo events in a miniature rodeo arena on stick horses. The events are: Bronco Riding, Bull Riding, Pole Bending, Barrel Racing and a Flag Race. Participants will be split into two age groups and prizes will be given. Bring your own stick horse or borrow one of ours!

Strokes, Strategy, & Play for Adult Intermediates

This four-week program reinforces stroke development, conditioning, and strategies for adult intermediate players.

Student Horse Show

Watch students compete in Western and English riding events. Classes include: equitation over fences and on the flat, barrel racing, pole bending, trail, Western horsemanship and showmanship. Open to the public.

Sunset Paddle

Join us at the University Lakes for an evening paddling under the setting sun. This is a great way to start your weekend and enjoy the beauty and serenity of this water area.

Sunshine Social

Through a partnership with Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, BREC is able to offer themed, monthly socials for adults with disabilities and their friends and family. There will be a disc jockey, snacks, door prizes, socialization and fun.
