Belly Aerobics: Jefferson Highway

This class offers a fun, low-impact workout that incorporates belly dance movements including warm-up, stretching, and toning with light dumbbells, and stretch bands.


Grab your field guides and boots and join BREC naturalists and local scientists as we document the diversity of life, or “biodiversity”, of Greenwood Community Park. This is a full 24 hour event starting on Friday and ending Saturday afternoon where experts and citizen scientists will search on land and water to find and identify as many species as humanly possible. You can participate by signing up to help document species with the help of scientists, by attending a scheduled hike or by visiting the Biodiversity Fair, were we will host special activities for kids and families to learn through hands on sampling, live animal encounters and more! Birds & Beyond

BREC Conservation and Outdoor Adventure are joining forces to offer you a great birding adventure! Join BREC naturalists and local bird experts on a journey to see all that our local waterways have to offer! You will get the full safari experience by kayak where you can view our parish’s different habitats and wildlife. Birds will be the focus, but no creature is off limits as we explore the food chain that supports local bird communities. Participants are expected to have basic paddling skills and must be able to complete a 3-mile paddle by kayak. This event is weather dependent and registration is limited to kayak availability.

Black History Event

This annual ceremony brings people together from across the parish to recognize and reflect on the contributions that African Americans have made in East Baton Rouge Parish and around the world.

Bluebonnet Swamp Volunteer Day

Come out and help us push back invasive plant species all over the Swamp! We will be targeting areas overgrown with invasive species in order to let our native plants thrive. Gloves and hand tools will be provided

BREC Junior Tennis Tournament

This tournament will take place March 23-25 at Independence and Highland Park Tennis Centers. The event will feature Youth Tennis Progression (YTP) singles events for ages 7-10. It is a non-elimination format for ages 10 and under. For more information about Youth Tennis Progression, please visit The tournament will also feature singles and doubles divisions for ages 11-18. BREC's Doug Williams Football Camp & Dance Clinic

The annual Doug Williams Football Camp and Cheer Clinic works with youth players on a technical and fundamental level. The free clinic teaches children ages 5-14 basic football skills such as blocking, tackling and throwing.


Hone your competitive nature and make new friends with BREC’s Bridge program. Bridge is a four player trick-taking card game, where two competing teams have partners sitting opposite each other.


Did you know Bunco originated in England and came to the Wild West as a new offering in gambling parlors? BREC offers a tamer version played just for fun but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get competitive! Come with a team or join one and the play game that uses dice – and a whole lot of luck!

Busy Bodies

This program addresses some of the major wellness components needed for optimal health. These areas include strength, flexibility, balance, cognition and nutrition.

Campout 2.0

Campout 2.0 is for those families or groups that love the outdoors and want to take their adventures away from home. During this fun excursion, BREC staff will accompany families that have minimal experience camping.


Meet new friends or bring a group with you to compete in a fun game of cards. Canasta is a multiple player "rummy" style card game.


Capoeira is and Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music.

Catholic Charities Day

Learn from the professionals how to take control of your health in the kitchen. Nutrition and health professionals will give engaging presentations, offer fun games and other activities, all with your health in mind. Each session ends with a delicious, nutritional meal.
