Science Academy

“Cadets” are brought into the wonderful world of astronomy. They explore gravity, simple machines, stars, planets, meteors, the Earth and the Moon, asteroids and comets, the electromagnetic spectrum and the American space program! Each session is stand-alone, but your child will want to attend again and again.

Let’s Go Legos: Longfellow

Come explore everything Lego! There will be a different Lego challenge each week given to the children, whether it is building an actual Lego figurine, or an arts and crafts to engage the children’s creative thinking. All materials are supplied by BREC and not taken home by children.

Trot and Brew Adult Horsemanship

Adults will meet for half hour of “coffee talk” and then ride for one hour. Learn about horses, riding, care of the horse and more in a fun and relaxed environment. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

Natural Sky Conference

The Andromeda Galaxy is the farthest object that can be seen by the human eye without the aid of equipment—it is over two million light-years in the distance! This galaxy, the Perseus Double Cluster, the Lagoon Nebula…all of them are in the Baton Rouge sky during the calendar year.

Led by a member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society (BRAS), visitors enjoy a morning hike through the forest and swamp while identifying various bird species. Bird-watching techniques and identification tips are also discussed. Beginners are welcome.
