BREC commissioned a study from the nationally respected organization Trust for Public Land to determine a dollar value for the impact the park system has on the East Baton Rouge Parish economy, the health of its residents and the benefits it provides to the environment. The study was conducted over a three-year period and uses the most conservative methodology to arrive at its conclusions. The bottom line: your investment in BREC parks is directly responsible for upgrades to parks that save taxpayers millions in economic, health and environmental benefits.

TPL’s Lab for Land and People is made up of an award-winning GIS team, environmental economists, planners, and subject matter experts in public health, climate, equity, and community.
The Conservation Economics team has extensive experience measuring the benefits and fiscal impacts of parks and conservation in over 60 economic analyses across the country, including reports for cities or states or both in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.
Fact: A homeowner with a home valued at $200,000 pays $289 per year to operate and maintain 175 parks within the BREC system. That equates to approximately $1.65 per park.
