In response to recommendations within the BREC Strategic Plan to establish and upgrade 12 existing parks into Community Parks, North Sherwood Forest Park has been scheduled for renovation and development as a Community Park. Plan development included analysis of the site and public input. Daylong workshops were held in November 2004 to receive comments from Parish residents, particularly local residents. High on the "wish list" are trails, renovation of the existing fitness/recreation center, and renovation of the fishing lake. BREC Planning and Engineering Staff has prepared a master plan to renovate North Sherwood Forest Community Park and contracted Jerry Campbell and Associates, A.I.A. and Mayeaux Engineering, P.E. to provide the Recreation Center architectural and mechanical system renovation plans. These renovations are now complete.
In response to public comment, the Strategic Plan recommends the development of twelve Community Parks around the Parish. North Sherwood Forest Community Park is the first Community Park to be scheduled for improvement.
BREC has renovated an existing room in the Family Center to create an Interactive Recreation Program. This unique room provides a way for kids to stay fit while playing digitally simulating games! It is available for day camps, birthday parties, and open for the public to use for a small entry fee.
