Event Schedule:

8:30 a.m.        Ribbon Cutting & Marker Dedication at Historic City Park Golf Course
                       The course officially opens to the public for play at 9 a.m. Shotgun starts are being
                       scheduled for opening weekend at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., with 48 players each.
                       Spots are limited and will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Contact the
                       pro shop at 225-387-9523 to reserve your spot. Regular green fees apply.
  
                                                        
10 a.m.           Interfaith Dedication of the Labyrinth
                      
Join BREC, volunteers from the Baton Rouge Labyrinth Project and religious leaders
                       from our community to commemorate this new feature of the park. Said to promote
                       relaxation, walking a labyrinth creates an internal balance generated by the rhythm of
                       walking and the mental state of no decision-making. It can be a potent tool for finding
                       creating solutions. Learn more about the Labyrinth at

11a.m.          Grand Opening of the Raising Canes Dog Park  
                      Bring your pets, your friends and their pets too, and join us for Bark in the Park as we
                      celebrate the opening of the Raising Cane's Dog Park.

12 p.m.         Kid's Celebration on Picnic Hill 
                     Join us for story time or visit the Knock Knock tent for children's play from noon-1 pm

1 p.m.           Ribbon Cutting at the Capital One Tennis Center 
                     Join us at the Capital One Tennis Center for a ribbon cutting and open-house featuring
                     adult and youth prize courts from 1:30-6 p.m. No court reservations will be accepted.
                     Play for free! 

                    Children's Village at Brooks Park 
                     Join us for a variety of interactive games and activities for children of all ages. Jump
                     around in the inflatables! Climb the rock wall! Get your face painted in the Children's 
                     Village at Brooks Field from 1-4 p.m. FREE!

                    Live Music on Picnic Hill
                    Join us for LIVE music featuring Rodney Thibodeaux and the Cajun Zydeco Band from
                    1-4 p.m.

3 p.m.          Parade to Picnic Hill
                     Help us celebrate the new walking trails that connect Brooks Field and old City Park as
                     we parade to Picnic Hill. Parade will begin at the Brooks Field entrance, near Eddie
                     Robinson Street and end at Picnic Hill.

5 p.m.         BREC City Brooks Community Park Grand Opening Ceremony
                 
  Join us at the main stage on Picnic Hill, as we officially cut the ribbon and re-open City
                   Brooks Community Park. This event is free and open to the public.

                   Special guests that have been invited to speak include: Reverend Betty Claiborne, BREC
                   Chairman Collis Temple, Mayor Kip Holden and BREC Superintendent Bill Palmer. 
                   Members of the media should contact the BREC Communications Office at
                   225-272-9200 x 142 to schedule interviews.


5:30 p.m.   Art Gallery Reception featuring Local Artists and Exhibits 
                  Join us at the Baton Rouge Gallery for a reception featuring three artist members with
                  three very distinct styles. The grouping of Mary Ann Caffery, Samuel Joseph Corso and
                  Amy James will show both the quality and diversity of the Baton Rouge Gallery artists.
                  Free admission!

                 
8 p.m.      Movies & Music on the Lawn
                One of  Baton Rouge Gallery's most successful programs, Movies & Music on the Lawn,
                will kick off this year's series with one of Charlie Chaplin's most recognizable feature
                 films, 1928's "The Circus." As always with Movies & Music on the Lawn, live musicians
                will accompany the silent film with both rehearsed and improvisational material sure to
                enhance the experience. This event is free and open to everyone! To learn more about

Go West on Florida Blvd./US-190 BR/US-61 BR toward N. Acadian TRWY. Continue to follow US-190 BR/US-61 BR.
Turn left on N 22nd St./LA-67
Turn right on Government St/LA-73
Turn left on Park Blvd.
Park Blvd. becomes Dalrymple Dr.
Turn left on City Park Ave.
Enter next City Park Ave. roundabout.

From Highland Rd. and Stadium Dr.:
Go North on Highland Rd. toward S. Stadium Dr.
Turn right on E State St.
Turn left on Dalrymple Dr.
Turn right onto City Park Ave.
Enter next City Park Ave. roundabout

From I-10 & I-12:
Go West on I-10 W
Take the Dalrymple Dr. exit, Exit 156B, toward LSU

Special thanks to the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish who made these park improvements possible through their support of the BREC "Imagine Your Parks" Strategic Plan.

The Master Plan for the park was completed by Henslee-Cox Landscape Architects, and design development of the park was led by the design team at Carol R. Johnson Associates, Inc. (CRJA). Sub-consultants to CRJA included for architecture, Kevin Harris Architects; for electrical engineering, NLB Engineering; for mechanical and plumbing engineering, Brock Engineering; for golf course architecture, Schreiner Golf; for civil engineering, GWS Engineering; and for fountain design, Delta Fountains. The project was constructed by General Contractor Lincoln Builders.
