BREC Honored as USTA Southern Member Organization of the Year
The Recreation and Park Commission for East Baton Rouge Parish (BREC) was selected as the 2015 recipient of the United States Tennis Association Southern (USTA) Member Organization of the Year Award. BREC representatives received the award Jan. 16 at the USTA Southern Annual Meeting during the J. Randolph Gregson Awards Ceremony and Luncheon in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Member of the Year award recognizes an organization for outstanding service to the local community, organization members and to the game of tennis by a member organization in the southern United States. USTA Southern represents a nine state region.
"BREC has given outstanding service to tennis, and USTA Southern is very proud to recognize those achievements," said Eleanora B. Mauritson, USTA Southern Awards Committee Chair.
BREC was also honored in December at the regional level by USTA Louisiana for its 2015 Member Organization of the Year and Best Junior Tournament awards.
"It is gratifying that BREC's tennis program has been recognized as one of the best in the nation and this honor will motivate us to continue to find new ways to grow our program and offer new and innovative activities for children and adults," said BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight. "BREC offers tennis instruction and camps to teach children a sport that will last them a lifetime, programs and tournaments to keep adults healthy and active and top-notch facilities which include five tennis centers and 143 outdoor courts across the parish. We hope this recognition will cause more people in East Baton Rouge Parish to visit our centers and utilize these award-winning programs in their own families."
