Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements and breath control. This course is fun-filled and helps introduce water safety concepts, encouraging a healthy recreational habit that your entire family can enjoy. Classes offered twice a week. Participants may attend multiple classes. Minimum of two and a maximum of 10 babies per class. BREC asks that all participants preregister for the class. Payment will be taken the evening of the class.
Water Exploration Class
Class teaches the beginning stages of swimming including blowing bubbles, leg kicks, submerged face, arm actions and water safety. Class is taught in 3ft 6in of water.
Class teaches more advanced stages of swimming such as leg kicks, arm strokes, swimming under water, front crawl, back crawl, diving, streamline swimming techniques and water safety. Class is taught in a water depth of 3ft 6in or 8ft depending on skill level.
Class integrates Zumba formula with traditional aqua fitness disciplines. This class is a safe, challenging, water-based workout that is cardio-conditioning, body-toning and exhilarating. Class is taught in water depth of 3ft 6in. Classes canceled due to weather will not be made up.

Paddle Up 1
Learn to paddle a sea kayak while enjoying exciting Liberty Lagoon. This program will teach entry-level participants. Safety equipment and kayaks are provided on-site as part of the program registration fee. Upon completion of the Paddle Up 1 class, participants can move onto the more advanced classes BREC offers. Classes are limited to 10 participants. BREC asks that all participants preregister for the class. Payment will be taken the morning of the class.
All pools are open from May 26-July 29 from 2-5 p.m. daily.

You will not find more affordable swim lessons in East Baton Rouge Parish! BREC partners with the YMCA and charges $10 per person (cash only). Program fees are non-refundable and participants may only register for one session.

BREC has splash pads at the locations listed below. Each location operates splash pads daily from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. during the operating season.
