Trail Time for Toddlers

Trail Time for Toddlers is a unique playgroup opportunity for children, ages 2-5, and their parents/guardians to make new friends while learning about nature through themed indoor and outdoor activities.

The Edge of Night (Fall Session

It’s not light, it’s not dark. It’s that special time called twilight, and HRPO wants to introduce you to it! Are all sections of the sky the same shade of blue? Which stars are seen first? Are Mercury and Venus or the Moon out? Is that moving object a plane, a satellite or space debris? There is no other time like twilight. Bring it into your life!

Take an evening stroll through Bluebonnet Swamp once per season during our Swamp Flashlight Nights!

Swamp Art Show Field Day

Twice a year, artists are invited to visit Bluebonnet Swamp for inspiration in creating works of art that can be entered in upcoming Swamp Art Shows. Whether your creative gear includes canvases or cameras, fabric or pen, come on out and let the swamp inspire you. Bring your own supplies, and we’ll provide workspace indoors and out for you to create your masterpieces!

  • BREC Issues Statement Regarding Small Fish Kill at City Park Lake

    With temperatures remaining above forecasted levels, the BREC Natural Resource Management and maintenance teams are coordinating efforts to respond to a small fish kill in City Park Lake.

  • Bluebonnet Swamp Hosts Annual Duck Duck Goose Day

    The BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Area welcomes families and feathered friends to a celebration of all things waterfowl related at their annual Duck Duck Goose Day on Saturday, August 17 from 9a.m.-4 p.m.

  • BRARC and HRPO Take Part in Nationwide Emergency Exercise at American Radio Relay League Field Day

    The Highland Road Park Observatory invites you to come out Saturday, June 22 from 1 to 10 p.m. as they take part in the most popular amateur radio event across the nation – American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day! The Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club (BRARC) returns to HRPO to teach the joys and importance of HAM radio in communication and emergency situations, how to send your name in Morse code, and how to obtain your own transmitting license in this great hobby that is over 100 years old!

  • Baton Rouge Bicentennial Oak Dedication

    In partnership with BREC, The Baton Rouge Bicentennial Commission, The East Baton Rouge Parish Library System, and Baton Rouge Green, a Live Oak will be planted at Expressway Park in honor of Baton Rouge’s 200th birthday.

  • BREC Hosts Kayak in Colors for Cancer Awareness

    BREC, Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge and the LSO Foundation will host the Fourth Annual Kayak in Colors at Milford Wampold Park, 901 Stanford Ave., on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 1-3 p.m. in support of Cancer Awareness.
