496.0 Acres - Frenchtown Road Conservation Area or "The Land Between The Rivers" is the largest Park and the largest Conservation Area currently operated by BREC. It is 495 acres of Bottomland Hardwood Forest including Small Stream Forest and Spruce Pine Hardwood-Flatwood Forest habitat; both of which are locally and globally ranked as rare or imperiled habitats. The property is home to a diverse spread of flora and fauna including several species of state conservation concern and countless migratory birds. Frenchtown currently has over 3 miles of trails which wind around the north and central parts of the park including access to the Amite River's Beach, several Amite River overlooks and access to countless Cypress-Tupelo sloughs. More trails and amenities will be developed as the Park's Master Plan is created.

In conjunction with the grand opening of Frenchtown Road Conservation Area, BREC is also releasing a new avenue for parish residents to learn about the ecology of the Park. With the help of the MyTourGuide App, created by the folks at TravelBrains, BREC will be offering self-guided hikes that visitors can access via their smart phone. The tours include educational audio segments about the park's natural history along with photos, videos, identification guides and augmented reality photos. It's like having a Naturalist in your pocket!

The park is located near the south end of Frenchtown Road. Once you pass under the railroad tracks, BREC's Parking Lot is located immediately on the left. NO PARKING at the end of the road, please only use BREC's parking lot. This park does have access to the Amite River and fishing is allowed following Louisiana State Regulations however, due to the fast current and hidden hazards, swimming in the Amite River is not advised.

*High Water Safety Notice
Frenchtown Road Conservation Area includes wetland habitat located within the flood plains of both the Amite and Comite Rivers. High rain events will result in flooding and impassable trails. When the Amite River is running 15’ or higher there is a chance that slough crossings and low areas along the trail will be flooded out. During these times we strongly suggest you do not attempt to visit the park and wait until several days after high rain events to attempt the Hardwood Forest Loop. Do not use trails that are covered in water. In addition to flooding, wet conditions will result in muddy and slippery trails and an increase in snake activity; use caution if proceeding onto trails during these times. You can visit http://water.weather.gov/ahps/region.php?state=la for up-to-date information on the Amite River level.
