Description
This 6-week session is designed for the needs of riders aged 6 and up with physical, mental, and/or social disabilities. Riders enjoy a one-hour class per week on horseback, while learning stretching exercises, basic equitation, and games. Horseback riding is known to improve physical skills such as core strength, balance, and coordination, as well as affecting cognitive, emotional, and social well-being. Each rider is fully supported by trained horses, staff, and volunteers, as well as each other. This can help foster within each participant a sense of community and belonging as a class.
Maximum class sizes of 8 riders, with 3 instructors and up to 3 volunteer assistants per rider. Contact Farr Park to register.
Session 1: Mondays / Sept. 1– Oct. 6
Session 2: Mondays / Oct. 20- Nov. 24
Class times: 4:30 p.m. + 6 p.m.
Volunteers Needed!
Farr Park is always accepting volunteers to assist the riders in the Hearts & Hooves Program! In keeping with our intent to provide the best possible services, we undergo a thorough volunteer screening process. As a result, we require volunteers to fill out an application and consent to a background check.
Registered volunteers who contribute 30 or more hours during a tax year and complete ethics training qualify for a $500 Louisiana State Income Tax deduction.
