These hands-on interactive classes and workshops are grounded in true artistic principles and techniques with a dash of craftiness and a whole lot of creativity. LITTLE PICASSO'S

Feb. 21 + 28 + March 7 + 21 / Ages: 5-7 / BARINGER ART CENTER
This class is an introduction to making art fun! Young artists will experience their first art lessons by experimenting with paint, pastels, watercolor and mixed media. Each class will utilize art basics and include guided discovery through creative thinking and teacher-led freedom of creative expression. Each class is an individual lesson and will not be repeated. 

 SMARTIES – A FREE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

BREC Art wants everyone in the community to experience fun and creativity through art and imagination. Open minds, new experiences and a lifelong appreciation of the arts is our goal! This class is free, but space is limited and registration is required. In-parish residents only.

BOOK DAYS

BREC Art is proud to collaborate with Line 4 Line, a nonprofit organization that promotes literacy through diverse books designed to engage, inspire and connect. Each session features a beautifully illustrated and written children’s book. Students will create a piece of art based on the message of the book and take home both their art and the book! Thanks to Line 4 Line’s book donations. No fee, but registration is required. Limit of 12

LITTLE MUDDY BUDDIES

What’s more fun than getting muddy on a Saturday morning?! Join ceramist, Sandy Parfait, for a morning of dirty hands, creating with clay and an introduction to the use of a potter’s wheel. Limit of 6


SATURDAY MORNING STUDIO

This newly revised program will focus on different types of art, different mediums, genres, and themes. Our Saturday Studio classes are always fun, creative, different, and educational! Supplies included.

STE(A)M BRIDGE BUILDING
Jan. 31 / Ages: 9-12 / BARINGER ART CENTER
Because bridges are made to go over water, valleys, roads and houses, they need to be built strongly but also safely. Join BREC Art for our first STEM class with graduating Industrial Engineering student, Stephen Barker. “Mr. Stephen” (camp favorite!)  will explain the physics and design of bridge building as students build their own bridge using mixed media and 3-d printed pieces.

SPRING POP-UP: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS!

BREC Art is celebrating the birth of the influential author of children’s books, Theodor Seuss Geisal, aka Dr. Seuss! Join us for an evening (great time for a grown-up time out!) of cake, ice cream, Seussy art and games, the Horton Hatches an Egg animated film and tales from the Butter Battle Book. All Seuss, all night! Limit of 15

 

ARTY PARTIES! NOT JUST FOR BIRTHDAYS!
Looking for a fun way to ARTy? BREC Art is now offering pARTies for birthdays, scouts, friend groups, milestones, or just-because
celebrations. Each party includes two hours: one hour of grown-up hosted party time and one hour of a teacher-led art activity. Art supplies included, but grown-ups must provide all other party needs. A half hour before the pARTy begins for grown-ups to set up and a half hour after for cleanup is included in the price.

Choose from these themes:
Happy Lantern pARTy – Design a festive, Chinese inspired lantern complete with streamers to take home and admire long after the party ends.
Statues pARTy – Create mixed media creatures or characters made from wire, clay, and paint.
Egg-Carton Animals pARTy – Make fun animals (like Mike the Tiger!) or pets from egg cartons, mount them on cardboard, and paint them to match any décor.
Painting on Canvas – Let BREC Art help your honoree design a painting of their choice! Requested themes and design must be age appropriate.

tutorials every other week through BREC Art’s Facebook group,
Art for All! The group is a great way to receive art inspiration,
share your work, and see what BREC has to offer. Any kind of
theme related art is welcome but this spring we are focusing
on college.

paper, scissors, glue, paints, sketchbooks, whatever you need

Each Friday morning, participants are invited to join other likeminded creatives while working on their own personal projects, visiting, and receiving honest, caring feedback. This free, drop-in program is a perfect unwinding, artsy time—and a great opportunity to tour BREC’s new art center and ask questions about upcoming programs.

CLAY SWEETIES: DATE NIGHT X2
Feb. 20 + 27 / DRUSILLA LANE PARK
Great for couples and fun for friends! This Valentine inspired clay class will allow participants to throw a mug, bowl and/or hand build a vase on night one and then come back on night two to paint and glaze your fired piece! The final pick up is Saturday Morning.
Nibbles, sparkling waters, and juices are included. Class taught by ceramicist, Sandy Parfait.

MUDDY BUDDIES WHEEL THROWING
Feb. - May / DRUSILLA LANE PARK
This class is for those who've always wanted to touch, throw, and play with clay! We will use the potter's wheel to learn how to make basic shapes used in all pottery: the cylinder and the bowl. With these two shapes we will create, and design mugs and bowls limited only by your own imagination! This class will also explore trimming and how to glaze. You will finish this fun class with your own mugs, bowls, and the experience of making art on a potter's wheel. Let’s get muddy! Taught by ceramicist Sandy Parfait.

MUDDY BUDDIES HAND BUILDING WITH CLAY
April - May / DRUSILLA LANE PARK
Hand building is the ceramics technique of creating clay forms without using a potter’s wheel. Students will create vessels using their hands, fingers, and simple tools while learning basic techniques such as pinch pots, coiling, and slab building. Clay, glazes and tools are provided. Taught by ceramicist Sandy Parfait.

ART TIME OUT FOR GROWN-UPS
Need a break? A short getaway? A fun meet-up? If so, then check out BREC’s adult-only, fun and creative time out for grown-ups! Each of these classes is designed to encourage and inspire while enjoying time with friends. Sparkling water, juices and charcuterie as well as all art supplies are provided. Gather your group and get creative! Great for friend get-togethers, bridal parties, corporate team building or just making new friends! Limit of 15

BREC Art Locations

BREC Art has three locations throughout the parish with permanent visual art programming. Be on the lookout for BREC Art pop-up programming at community events throughout the parish!

Baringer Art Center @ Baringer Road Park - located at 7401 Baringer Rd, BREC Art took over this recreational facility in 2022 to develop a neighborhood Art Center for the southeast portion of the parish. Programming focusing on ages 3-99, beginner, intermediate and advanced levels via classes and workshops are available throughout the year. Baringer Art Center also hosts a community art festival for the neighborhood every spring!

 


Drusilla Lane Park - located at 2546 Drusilla LN, is the ceramics headquarters for BREC Art. Our ceramics studio has electric wheels, new kilns and tools for hand building. Programming includes our Muddy Buddies intro classes as well as Open Studio for advanced artists.

  


Milton J. Womack Park– located at 6201 Florida Blvd, is the artistic home base for BREC Art and our youth programming as well as the arts-based camps held in March/April, June-August and December.
