Ambitious Artists C.I.T. (Counselors In Training)
This 4-day workshop/camp is for BREC Art camp graduates and young teens who have an interest in art. In addition to intentional art projects, students will learn how to engage school-aged children, the rules and etiquette of group settings, teaching tips, and creative activities for all ages. Those who complete this week will be invited to volunteer for one of our Summer Fun Art Camps!
Session 1: June 2-5 / noon-5 p.m. / Ages: 14-17
Summer Fun Art Camps!
Be a part of one of BREC’s most popular summer camps! These weeklong camp sessions include 3-D art, mixed media, pencil drawing, pastels, mixed-media, print making, collage and a few other summer surprises! For our lifers: Our themes may be the same as last year, but the ages for each have changed – and all new projects!)
Session 1: June 8-12 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Critters/ Ages:6-8
- This session will allow campers to explore the stranger side of our animal kingdom. Species found only found in the Rain Forest, those they might see on a safari, odd creatures like those found in Australia or Central America and even some backyard bugs!
Session 2: June 15-19 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Under the Sea/ Ages: 6-8
- This session will dive deep under the ocean to discover art! We will meet new creatures as well as those we know well – we might even meet a mermaid!
Session 3: June 22-26
Deep in the Rain Forest / Ages:6-8
- Follow us deep into the jungles of the rain forest to discover unique bugs, odd tree dwellers and unusual creepy crawlies!
Session 4: June 29-July 3 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Animal Crackers- Puppies! / Ages: 9-10
- This session will include painting puppies on canvas, 3-D bugs, animal stories and art from around the world as well as a visit from Second Chance Rescue!
Session 5: July 6-10 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Save Our Planet! / Ages: 9-10
- This session will focus on art and activities that bring awareness to the needs of our planet, endangered species and heroes who have made a difference.
Session 6: July 13-17 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Fairytales + Folklore / Ages:9-10
- This session will include tales and art from well-known and not so well-known fairytales and fables from around the world as well as local folklore.
Session 7: July 20-24 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Illustrators! / Ages: 11-13
- This session will pay homage to illustrators through the ages. Campers will discover the process of different types of illustration, such as print, collage, pencil drawing, and painting. We will even have a guest illustrator join us!
Session 8: July 27-31 / 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Influencers! / Ages:11-13
- This session will introduce campers to those artists who made or are making an impact on the history of art and how we view and create different types and recognize the styles of art.
Summer Art Afternoons for Teens!
Art for camp graduates or teens who just enjoy art! Join us for two different sessions planned especially for teens. These sessions will focus on individual creativity using skills and art intentions designated for our older artists. Join us for fun, independent, critical thinking and free but guided expression. Six / Seven!! Taught by professional artist, Holly Stone-Barker (hollystonebarker.com). Limit of 10.
Session 1: June 15
3-D Art!
This class will encourage students to design, create and build their own three-dimensional art pieces using cardboard, paint, foam, material, findings and printed papers.
Session 2: June 22
Abstract Color Wheel!
In this class students will create their own color wheel using mixed media and unlimited creativity. Color properties such as hue and value will be discussed as well as the difference between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Not to mention cool, warm and neutral!
