Description
Are your kids hands-on learners who love exploring? Do they bring you their latest nature finds? Bring them to Going Wild to explore the outdoors with our education team! Each session focuses on a different topic and includes hands-on activities and explorations of animals, habitats, and even scat! Sessions alternate between Frenchtown Nature Station and other Conservation Areas so your kids can apply what they learn across BREC parks.
Session 1: Going Fishy
Want to connect with your aquatic side? Dive into all things that swim, splash, and croak! Join us to discover the fish and amphibians that inhabit Louisiana’s ponds and wetlands. What’s the difference between a frog and a toad? Where do fish go when the water is too shallow or cold? Why do frogs call so loudly at night? How do aquatic animals use their gills to breathe underwater, and what other adaptations help them thrive? Come jump in and find out!
Session 2: Going Birdy
For the budding ornithologist! This session focuses on our feathered friends that flutter, soar, and sing. Discover which birds inhabit Louisiana’s forests, swamps, and even your backyard. How do feathers help birds fly, stay warm, and camouflage? Why do some birds migrate thousands of miles? What makes a beak perfect for cracking seeds, probing mud, or catching fish? Join us to learn what makes a bird a bird, their role in the ecosystem, how to be a thoughtful birdwatcher, and more!
