Kids & Community

One of BREC's main focuses is to develop progamming that helps families and children stay active outdoors. Join a class as a family or attend one of our many community events for a day of family fun. Check out our camps in the summer and on school holidays, which aim to keep children active while they are away from school. Also during the summer months, families can enjoy several swimming pools and the Liberty Lagoon Aquatic Center.

Youth 360

Are you looking for an after-school program that will bring your child from their school to their local recreation center? Youth 360 works with the local school systems to make this happen. This program is designed to provide learning through a recreational curriculum to include 360 degrees of nutritional snacks, homework time, socialization, arts and crafts, guest speakers and activities to include health and wellness. This program follows the local school schedules. The program begins October 5. Please contact your local center for specific instructions on transportation changes or requests.

Swamp School

Picking up where Trail Time for Toddlers leaves off, Swamp School continues nature-based education for children ages 6-10. With more of a focus on science content, we continue hands-on fun through outdoor exploration, arts and crafts, live animal encounters, and healthy snacks

Archery Academy 2.0

Archery Academy 2.0 is an intermediate archery program designed for people that have completed our beginner “Archery Academy” Program, or that are novice level archers that are looking to take their archery skills to the next level.

  • BREC Hosts Family Friendly Halloween Events

    The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC) will host several Halloween events throughout the month of October at various parks and facilities throughout the parish. These events will be safe spaces for children and families to enjoy holiday themed activities and treats.

  • BREC Partners with Three O’clock Project to Help Feed School Children

    With schools across East Baton Rouge Parish closed to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the non-profit Three O’clock Project will visit 25 BREC parks daily to provide free, nutritious meals to at-risk children.

  • BREC Hosts Easter Activities Throughout the Parish

    Hop into the holiday season with BREC as we host a variety of Easter themed activities throughout the parish for all ages and abilities. This year will include surprising new twists that you do not want to miss!
