Friday Night Lecture Series

For almost twenty-five years this program has given patrons histories and possible futures. Skygazing tips, physics phenomena, space programs and famous events are covered. Fridays / (No lecture on March 11 or May 6) / 7:30-8:30 p.m.

STEM Expansion

Advanced demonstrations and topic extensions for an older crowd. Archived experiments (some not seen in over fifteen years) join with timely, cutting-edge demos and concepts. Certificates earned. Jan. 29 + Feb. 19 + March 19 + April 30 + May 28 / 3:30-7:30 p.m. $15 East Baton Rouge Parish residents $18 out-of-parish residents.

Early Bird Extended Hours

Join us for extended morning hours on the first Saturday of every month to check out the feathered friends that call Bluebonnet Swamp home. Due to current protocols, a guide is not provided for this program, but you are welcome to come to enjoy the trails on your own before our normal operating hours begin. Jan. 8 + Feb. 5 + March 5 + April 2 + May 7 / Saturdays / 7-9 a.m. General admission fees apply / Pass holders are free Registration not required

Dog Day at the Swamp

With our Dog Days, BSNC drops its “No Pets” policy and opens its doors and trails to pets 4 days out of the year! All pets are welcome, but they must be on a leash and have their vaccinations current.

  • Baton Rouge Bicentennial Oak Dedication

    In partnership with BREC, The Baton Rouge Bicentennial Commission, The East Baton Rouge Parish Library System, and Baton Rouge Green, a Live Oak will be planted at Expressway Park in honor of Baton Rouge’s 200th birthday.

  • Highland Road Park Observatory Celebrates 20 Years of “Bringing Astronomy to the People”

    This year the Highland Road Park Observatory (HRPO) celebrates its 20th anniversary of “brining astronomy to the people.” The Highland Road Park Observatory is brought to the public by BREC, Louisiana State University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society and held its first public night in the Fall of 1997. The observatory houses a state-of-the-art 20-inch reflecting telescope, which has been used to discover more than 40 asteroids, and an accessible 16-inch reflecting telescope.
