Baton Rouge, LouisianaIn response to a multitude of safety concerns associated with trespassing and other potential crimes, the Howell Park pool will be closed until further notice. An incident occurred on Sunday around 11am, with 4 juveniles jumping over the fencing, getting into the pool unsupervised and roaming about the pool deck. This group of juveniles possessed handguns and once staff approached them, they ran away without any confrontation.
The decision to close the pool was made to ensure the safety of all visitors and to allow for a thorough assessment of the situation. BREC is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its community and will continue to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A community meeting is scheduled for July 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Howell Community Park. This meeting will bring together community members, local pastors, and city officials to discuss the incident and address community concerns with the goal of developing a solution to prevent these instances in the future and enable the pool and all programming to reconvene as originally planned.
