For decades, BREC’s Summer Camps have been an inclusive, family tradition in East Baton Rouge Parish! Parents recognize the quality of BREC’s summer program which is loaded with a diverse curriculum of fun, memory-making activities that are second to none. Campers experience recreational games, community field trips, recreational sports, cultural arts, develop new friendships and more. With over 250 individual camp opportunities across the parish, from recreation and theatre to animals and science, there is a camp for children of all abilities, ages and interests!
Community Recreation Camps
Give your child the opportunity to experience Camp BREC at any of our Community Recreation summer camps at ten locations throughout the parish for children ages 5-10. These camp opportunities are created to provide campers with an enjoyable camp experience, full of an array of exciting activities and unique field trips exploring EBR and surrounding areas. Each week of community recreation camp is themed to give campers up to nine weeks of new camp experiences with a variety of topics, such as Inventors and Explorers, Critters, Trails and Tales and more.
In addition to camps for only ages 5 to 10, Camp Red Stick is offered for tweens and teens, ages 11-14, at Antioch Boulevard Park, North Sherwood Forest Community Park and Plank Road Park. Camp Red Stick is the ultimate ‘teen’ enrichment camp where summer is not just a break but a journey of discovery. Campers will enjoy vibrant mix of art and technology activities, weekly field trips, swimming, life skills workshops, and lots of other exciting recreational activities. BREC Beginnings Half-Day camps (from 8 a.m. to noon) are also available for kids ages 3 and 4 at Forest, Highland Road, Jackson and Zachary Community Parks.
BREC is also proud to offer Camp Sunshine, an exclusive summer camp designed for campers with intellectual and developmental disabilities who can function within a staff ration of 1:5. During each themed week, campers will enjoy recreational games and activities, arts and crafts, field trips, water activities, and inclusive activities with other BREC summer camps to socialize and interact with their peers. All BREC summer camps are inclusive, but Camp Sunshine is for campers who require a smaller group setting with trained staff of this expertise. All campers with a diagnosed disability must undergo an assessment with a BREC Adaptive staff member. The assessment must be completed prior to starting camp and are essential for our campers to have a successful experience at camp. Assessments will be held in person at Nairn Drive Park from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday from March 9 to May 6. To set up an assessment or for questions, email recadaptive@brec.org.
