Put on your prettiest pastel and grab your biggest basket because BREC is helping the Easter Bunny hop around town early this year. Beginning Friday and continuing throughout the rest of the month, BREC will host a variety of Easter events for all ages, and even your four-legged best friends!
The festivities begin Friday, March 13, at Zachary Community Park with an adult-only glow-in-the-dark egg hunt starting at 7 p.m. Guests can enjoy food, drinks, games and dancing, along with live music from Sweet Southern Heat. For those who miss the thrill of searching for eggs on Easter Day, this event brings back the fun with a grown-up twist. In addition to the egg hunts taking place at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., guests can enjoy games with prizes, a cash bar and photo opportunities before and during the hunt.
The event will end at 11 p.m. and is open to guests 18 and older. Registration is required, but admission is free. Visit the BREC website to sign up and secure a glowing spot in the dark! Guests are asked to bring a valid I.D. to provide at check-in.
On March 15, BREC is calling all dogs for a day filled with treats made just for them. Paws & Cottontails will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at the Raising Cane’s Dog Park at City-Brooks Community Park. The event will feature a doggy egg hunt with eggs stuffed with tasty treats and prizes for pups to discover.
Dog owners can also browse a colorful Makers Market featuring local artisans who create pet-friendly crafts, including stylish collars and fresh snacks safe for both owners and their furry friends. Separate egg hunts will be held for small and large dogs, along with special prizes and plenty of fun surprises throughout the day!
Guests can also stop by for a “puppy and me” caricature and take home a fun drawing of themselves and their pup as a keepsake. Don’t wait, let us know you're coming by registering on our website!
Next up, make sure to grab your baskets before leaving home because we are throwing our biggest bash of the month, an EGGSTRAVAGANZA! This family-friendly event will take place March 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Independence Community Park near Liberty Lagoon. The celebration will feature separate egg hunts for different age groups, along with face painting, bounce houses, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, a visit from the Easter Bunny and more! Egg hunts will be broken into age groups and happen at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
This year, BREC is also introducing a Sensory Hunt designed for guests of all ages with intellectual, developmental or sensory processing disorders. The goal is to ensure that all participants feel safe, comfortable and included during the celebration.
Families may begin checking in online one hour before the event starts to receive proof of registration. After checking in, guests can proceed to the wristband stations located behind the BREC check-in tent to collect an age-appropriate wristband designating their hunt zone. In-person check-in will also be available at the start of the event.
Parking will be accessible at the Independence Park Theatre, Botanical Gardens and areas near the playground.
BREC Adaptive will also host its Sensory Bunny event on Friday, March 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at Zachary Community Park. We encourage adults and children of all ages with intellectual, developmental or sensory processing disorders to jump into spring in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
The event will offer a safe space designed to reduce long wait times and sensory overload while allowing participants to enjoy activities such as photos with the Easter Bunny and other festive fun.
Make sure to register online in advance and bring your brightest smiles for the camera!
BREC will wrap up its Easter March Madness celebration with Neighborhood Egg Hunts on March 28 at three locations across the parish. Baker Park and Zachary Community Park will host egg hunts from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., while Alsen Park will hold its event from 10 a.m. to noon.
Each location will be open to all ages and will feature Easter-themed games, activities and, of course, an egg hunt to help guests gather their final share of candy for the month.
In addition to the egg hunts, we’ll have snowballs, inflatables and crafts to help you kick off the spring season with exactly what the Easter Bunny would prescribe - a colorful dose of sunshine and fun!
