Athletics

Nick Brossette Training + Camps

Nick Brossette has partnered with BREC to give back to the community through athletic training. Nick Brossette was a four-year letter winner at running back for the LSU Tigers. He rushed for 1,350 yards and 14 TDs during his LSU career. He also capped his career as the 32nd-leading rusher in LSU history despite serving as LSU’s primary running back for only one season. He joins BREC Athletics to enhance youth skills development throughout the parish.

BUSY BEE SPRING CAMP

Bring your child to Bluebonnet Swamp for three days of fun during the holiday breaks (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday). They’ll be treated to nature-based activities such as arts and crafts, live animal encounters, hikes, games, and a themed afternoon snack. Each day will be comprised of different activities, and campers will need to bring a bag lunch and drink each day. Activities in spring camp will focus on springtime topics such as baby animals, blooming plants, and bees. Registration opens March 1.

Spring Holiday Art Camp

Campers will create springtime art projects in an atmosphere of fun and encouragement. Media includes paint, clay, watercolor, pastels and mixed media.

Community Recreation

SPRING BREAK HOLIDAY CAMPS

These camps offer a fun-filled variety of holiday themed recreational curriculum to include arts and crafts, guest speakers, passive and active games, socialization with peers and more. BREC is following all local, state and national guidelines for the current pandemic phase. We will require strict social distancing and limit the participation numbers to ensure safety for all participants and staff.

Adaptive Camps

Our Camp Sunshine Spring Break Camp is for campers who require a smaller group setting with trained staff. We have a week of recreational opportunities, arts, music, games and social opportunities to interact with peers.

What to bring: Camp begins as early as 7:30 a.m. and ends as late as 5:30 p.m. Each day, please send your camper to camp with a packed lunch, water bottle and a few snacks. Closed toed shoes are required. If you have additional questions, please contact the recreation center for more information.

Covid-19 Safety: Above all, we value your camper's safety. BREC follows all CDC official guidelines as well as industry best practice standards set by the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) and the American Camp Association (ACA). All participants of camp will practice frequent hand washing and our facilities are sanitized routinely throughout the day. In order to minimize multi-person contact in the facility, camp staff will happily meet you at your vehicle each morning for sign in and will follow the same process for dismissal. Campers will practice social distancing throughout the day, and all campers will need to have a mask readily accessible at all times to be worn indoors.

Spring Break Holiday Camp

Spring break riding camp will teach your child basic horsemanship, horse care, crafts, and enjoying the outdoors. All campers will have their own horse and ride for a total of 1-2 hours per day. Registration begins March 15.

SPRING SPACE EXPLORATION CAMP

Campers review highlights of American space program via interactive demos and games. Each session has a theme with a core activity: the construction and launching of two model rockets.

MAGNOLIA MOUND SPRING HOLIDAY CAMP

Campers will explore early 19th century history and make Spring-themed crafts. From touring the historic house to playing old fashioned games, campers will love learning about the past. The two days will end with campers cooking in the open-hearth kitchen and visiting the museum store.
