BREC has a variety of ways East Baton Rouge Parish residents can enjoy the cultural arts. If it's art that you're after, stop by Baton Rouge Gallery at BREC's City-Brooks Community Park and view one of its monthly artist exibitions or check out the Louisiana Arts and Artists Guild Gallery at the Independence Park Theatre. Catch a wide range of community theatre at BREC's Independence Park Theatre, located at Independence Community Park. History enthusiasts can visit BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation to learn about French Creole culture.

Warmth of the Earth Pottery Program

Use your hands to get creative while shaping and molding clay into beautiful pieces of artwork. Basic pottery techniques are introduced where participants will be allowed to create, paint, and glaze their individual pieces. The finished product will then be fired by the instructor for you to pick up at a later date. SHARP ROAD PARK ADULT LEISURE CENTER Jan. 10-June 29 Monday + Wednesday + Friday / 9:30-11 a.m.

Art UnWined

Tired of the same ol’paint and drink?! If so, then check out BREC’s adult-only, fun and creative grown-up time outs. Each of these classes are designed to encourage and inspire while enjoying beverages and nibbles. All art supplies, nibbles and adult (or not) beverages included. Great for friend get-togethers, bridal parties, corporate team building or just making new friends! Private ART UnWINEd bookings are also available. Must be 21 to join the fun. This Fall’s Art UnWined themes have something for everyone!

Saturday Morning Studio

Saturday Morning Studio is TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD! Each month BREC Art will “travel” to different countries to experience history, art, (and snacks!) from different cultures. Join us each month for tips, treats, and creative expression as we pack our art bags and see the world! $12 per class EBR Parish residents $14.40 out-of-parish residents Sept. 10: Mona Lisa Cat - In this session, the very little-known French portrait of the Mona Lisa Cat will be recreated with chalk and oil pastels. This “visit” to France will introduce students to the mysterious Mona Lisa painting, a stop at the Eiffel Tower and Macarons. Nov. 12: Mother’s Helper - Students will travel to Mexico City, Mexico where they will meet Diego Rivera. Bright colors, Hispanic culture and nachos will all be part of the fun as we recreate his famous Mother’s Helper using mixed media. Dec. 3: Gingerbread House - The German tradition of building gingerbread houses is still part of holiday traditions worldwide. After learning the origin of the gingerbread house and seeing different houses from around the world, we will build our own edible Gingerbread masterpiece!

First Free Sundays
