The unique habitat of the park will provide an experience different from BREC's other community parks and allow a wide range of outdoor recreation activities. Sandy Creek Community Park is 386 acres of mixed pine hardwood forest bordered along the north eastern edge by Sandy Creek. Most of the habitat within the park is in a young stage of forest succession due to a history of logging in the area. The acidic sandy loams and clay soils are suitable habitat to restore the lost longleaf pine ecosystem. This habitat which is no longer found within the parish but historically occurred here naturally, would provide a unique and necessary ecosystem supporting rare and diverse life not found in other parts of the parish such as the red-cockaded woodpecker and eastern slender glass lizard. Currently the park offers great opportunities for horseback riding, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, photography, butterflying and birding.

Sandy Creek Community Park currently has 3.9 miles of trails for visitor enjoyment. We ask that you take a look at the park's rules and regulations linked below before you visit. Please be courteous while sharing the trail and remember to follow trail courtesy rules, yielding to others on the trail per the diagram posted on park maps. Dogs are allowed at the park as long as they are on a leash and owners pick up after them. There are no facilities (restrooms, running water) at the park yet so please come prepared.  Hunting and motorized vehicles of any kind are not permitted within the park.
