On The Mat - Pilates
Independence Community Park
Mat Pilates is a low-impact exercise program that focuses on strengthening and toning the body through a series of controlled movements done on a mat. Suitable for all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners, Mat Pilates helps improve flexibility, posture, and core strength. This comprehensive workout sculpts muscles and enhances overall body awareness for a leaner, more toned physique.

Cardio Kickboxing program is a high-energy, free fitness class that combines martial arts and cardio exercises. Participants engage in dynamic kicks, punches, and cardio drills for a full-body workout. The program emphasizes fun and community building while promoting health and movement to help you achieve your health goals.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Get ready to time-travel to 1975 for an unforgettable night of spooky fun and groovy tunes! Join us for a special outdoor screening of this classic horror musical that has captivated audiences for decades. Bring your blankets and chairs, and prepare for a night filled with live music, exciting games, themed cocktails, delicious bites and surprises around every corner. Dust off your best costumes- it's going to be a night of nostalgia, thrills, and fun you won't want to miss! Are you a true fan of the cult classic? Show it by dressing in your best, most creative Rocky Horror attire and compete in the costume contest! Pre-registration is required. Fill out the form below and screenshot your submission once completed to show at event check-in! (If there is more than one person in your party, please have each person fill out the form above.)

The Great Pumpkin Dash
Hooper Road Park
Join us at Hooper Trails for The Great Pumpkin Dash trail race! Runners will dash through the hills and trails, passing the changing colors of fall leaves for approximately 5 miles. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, and medals will be given to all finishers. Participants must register by September 13th to ensure a race shirt! All participants will receive a ticket to redeem for food after the race.

Grand Opening of BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo + Greenwood Community Park
BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo + Greenwood Community Park
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Zoo Entry Building – 10:30 a.m. Celebrate with us as we unveil exciting new features at the Zoo Entry Building including the entry building, giraffe exhibit. Enjoy live music, character appearances, and a photo booth from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Be one of the first 54 visitors for a free zoo pass! Join us for an afternoon of festivities including performances and interactive activities from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Don’t miss the food truck and photo opportunities on the promenade. End the day with fun activities around the playground. Enjoy a mock ribbon cutting station for all to participate in, live music, and interactive entertainment, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Volunteers Needed: We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with setup, guide attendees, and assist throughout the day. Magnolia Mound Pumpkin Patch
Magnolia Mound Historic Site + Museum
Come find your special pumpkin at Magnolia Mound! The Friends of Magnolia Mound and the East Baton Rouge Master Gardener volunteers will offer Magnolia Mound pumpkins for sale and there will be special activities. Admission Magnolia Mound free for the First Free Sunday opening.

Vibin' Yoga
Zachary Community Park
Vibin' yoga combines traditional yoga techniques with the rhythms and flows of R & B to Hip-Hop music. This workout combines elements of yoga from Hatha to Vinyasa styles, that creates a full-body workout with a healthy dose of fun. Vibin' Yoga may be the new start you are looking for. Come in and embrace a new journey of self-discovery, strengthening your personal yoga practice and learning a new skill.

Get inspired through games, crafts, and activities highlighting our favorite summer camp moments. Each camp-in day will highlight different specialty weeks from the summer such as STEAM, Safari, and Power-Up along with guests/instructors and/or field trips. Campers should bring a lunch and 2 snacks and be dressed for indoor and outdoor activities.

Fall Intensive Program - Mean Girls

Alert the doctor—there’s a serious case of disco fever and it's spreading fast! Dust off your far-out bell bottoms, platform shoes, and glittery threads, because we’re bringing back the fab vibes of the 70s at this month's Sunshine Social. Adults and teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their friends and family are invited to a to enjoy dinner, door prizes and lots of dancing! Be there or be square!

Geaux Fish! Catfish Rodeo
Howell Community Park
Grab your fishing pole and head out with the family to GEAUX Fish! Our Geaux Fish Rodeos are a great opportunity to introduce new anglers to the sport of fishing or for the fishing expert to test their skills. We will stock the pond with adult channel catfish to ensure you have plenty to catch and prizes galore. Don’t miss this chance to bring home channel catfish for dinner and spend the day outside with the family. This event is weather-dependent. Early registration is encouraged to guarantee a spot.

Come visit on this moonless night—if you dare—as HRPO delves into the eerie side of astronomy, physics and aeronautics for the sixteenth consecutive year. We'll have creepy science demonstrations, some of which we've never used. And don't forget the stories. Strange sky phenomena…extra dimensions… extraterrestrials. Be warned—we want to make you think!!

Put your pop-culture knowledge to the test with Wednesday Night Trivia at Jefferson Highway Park. Contestants will use their phone or tablet to answer questions projected on the big screen.

Join BREC dog parks for trick and treat dog costume contest! Unleash your four-legged friends and families on a Friday night for some fang-tastic fun, free for all ages and breeds. Come enjoy live music, local pet vendors, food, art, kids’ activities and more! Meet some canine friends who will be available for adoption.

Dance the night away with BREC Adaptive and Families Helping Families as we host our monthly Sunshine Socials. Be creative and dress to match this month’s theme, Flannel Frenzy. Enjoy dinner, dancing, and door prizes.

Ghostie Fest!

Join us for our first annual Ghostie Fest! Groups of three, with one being a grown-up, are invited to hand build a fun, spooky or cute tea light ghostie. We will then fire and dip your new friend who will be ready for pick-up the following week! All supplies, treats and maybe a few tricks provided! Taught by ceramicist, Sany Parfait.

On October 19, 20, 26 & 27,the Zoo invites participants to Boo at the Zoo, Presented by Hancock Whitney! Participants should wear their best costumes and enjoy a fun & festive day a the Zoo! Regular Zoo admission applies.

Roller Jam
Perkins Road Community Park
Celebrate Roller Skate Month with us at the Skatepark. Come join us for music, fun, and some old-fashioned roller skating. We will have skating demonstrations from various skaters and instructions on how to get involved in this ever-growing sport!

Great Family Camp Out
Flanacher Road Park
Grab a tent and enjoy an active evening with other families, make a s’more, sleep under the stars, and wake up refreshed in a beautiful BREC park! Archery, biking, hiking, inflatables, and more Outdoor Adventure fun will run from 4 p.m. to dark. Food is provided and no camping experience is required.

Solar Viewing
Highland Road Park Observatory
Weather permitting, viewing of the Sun’s image in three different manners—transferred onto a white surface, directly with safely-filtered optical light, and directly in safely-filtered hydrogen-alpha wavelength—will take place for two hours. Protective clothing and sunscreen are recommended.

STEM Expansion
Highland Road Park Observatory
This program offers advanced topics, topic extensions and all-new games and activities to an older crowd. Certificates will be earned, and a section of archived experiments, some not seen in over fifteen years (and some never performed on site) take place. There are also giveaways and door prizes. Registration deadline: Friday before class

Creep on over and join us for an unforgettable evening of family fun and entertainment! Dress up in your favorite costumes and stroll from trunk to trunk collecting trinkets and treats.
