Sunshine Club

What do you do after graduation? You walk on Sunshine, of course! The Sunshine Club is here to help bridge the gap for adults with Intellectual and developmental disabilities by offering not only recreational experiences but life skills and volunteer opportunities. We learn how to be productive members of the community while exploring and learning new things with a bit of fun thrown in the mix. All incoming participants need an assessment and registration can be done by Recreation staff.

Classic Ceramics Open Studio

Spark your interest in ceramics. Participants bring their own supplies: paint/brushes/pieces or can purchase a piece from our selection. Seasoned participants provide insight on the techniques involved in the painting and glazing of ceramics. The focus of this class is not the forming of the ceramic piece but administering the paint and glaze to preformed ceramic pieces.

BREC Beginnings

BREC offers this Mother’s day out type of program as an opportunity for children ages 3-4 to experience the power of play. The recreation based curriculum focuses on peer socialization, creativity, interest exploration and more. Staff will guide children through hands-on arts & crafts projects, sing-along songs, story time, physical activity, and more. Sept. 6-Dec. 16 Monday-Thursday / 9 a.m.-noon

Painting With A Purpose

Are you interested in learning to paint? Our Painting with Purpose class provides participants the opportunity to experience and explore a variety of painting techniques and mediums. The instructor will guide the class in painting projects and allow them to explore their creativity by creating unique pieces of art. There will be monthly themes and related projects such as: painting by number projects, guided painting on poster as well as canvases and much more. Participants will receive a supply list to purchase their own materials (such as paint brushes, canvas, posters, and acrylic paints needed). Swamp School

Picking up where Trail Time for Toddlers leaves off, Swamp School continues nature-based education for kids ages 6-10. With more of a focus on science content, we will explore the outdoors, do arts and crafts, meet interesting animals and have healthy snacks. This is a perfect opportunity for homeschool parents to supplement their science education curricula in a natural setting. The program is held four times a month and themes change each class. The child must be accompanied by an adult. Registration for each month begins on the 1st of the month prior. Tuesdays / Sept. 6-Nov. 8 / 2-4 p.m. $40 per month (4 classes) per child EBR Parish residents November is $20 (2 classes) $48 per month (4 classes) per child out-of-parish residents - November is $24 (2 classes)

Afterschool Adventures

Afterschool just got a little more adventurous! Introducing our new afternoon recreation program for youth ages 6-12. We will focus on fitness, health, Steam activities and 21st Century Skills. Daily programming will take place from 3:30-5:30 p.m with one extended, enrichment day which will end at 7 pm (days for an extended time may vary). Our enrichment days will include field trips, guest speakers and special programming to provide unique experiences for participants. We will work with local school districts to provide transportation to our Adventure locations. Monthly fees include daily after-school programming including early release days. The optional, extended service offering will be provided for teacher workdays and participants will also receive benefits of early bird registration and discount rates for our holiday camps when enrolled in the current monthly programming. Antioch starts on Aug 8 Zachary starts on Aug 9 Lovett Starts on Aug 11 Monday-Friday / 3:30-5:30 p.m.

English + Western Riding Lessons

Learn how to ride a horse or improve your skills. Farr Park offers riding lessons to students ages 6 and older at all different levels, English or Western, taught by qualified instructors who specialize in their disciplines. Group and private lessons are available. Urban Nature Hike Series: Milford Wampold

Interested in exploring the nature oasis next door or looking to take your neighborhood walks to the next level? Our Urban Hike series is a great start! Geared toward nature novices of all ages, participants will enjoy a leisurely walk through a BREC park while learning some fun facts about the park’s natural areas and the fundamentals of adventuring in the great outdoors. Archery Academy

Archery Academy is designed to take you from archery newbie to bullseye bound in four short weeks. Our instructors will provide you with basic archery instruction, and educate participants on common archery equipment, and safe archery practices. You will spend lots of time shooting with plenty of opportunities to practice your newfound archery skills. We meet once a week for four weeks to review and practice skills, ending in an explosive conclusion! Both youth and adults are welcome. All equipment is provided.
