General Info

At BREC, our mission is enriching lives through parks, recreation, and nature—delivering vibrant, transformative experiences connecting East Baton Rouge Parish residents to the joy of the outdoors, fostering community bonds, and stewarding our shared environment for generations to come. We are evolving into a bolder, more innovative agency, reimagining our approach to create exceptional spaces inspiring active living, cultural celebration, and environmental harmony.

In this spirit of renewal, BREC is charting a forward-thinking path by thoughtfully repurposing land and revitalizing existing parks. We are streamlining our portfolio of properties—once numbering over 170—to focus on fewer, higher-impact sites. Our strategic shift elevates the quality of every park, amplifies our capacity for outstanding services and programs, and strengthens our role as responsible stewards of community resources and taxpayer investments.

Guided by the community-driven insights from Imagine Your Parks 3 (IYP3), BREC has crafted a bold 10-year strategic plan that comprehensively addresses every recommendation from the landmark initiative. BREC's 10-year strategic plan enables us to build a resilient, responsive parks system prioritizing sustainability, and resident well-being, turning collective visions into lasting realities for all East Baton Rouge Parish residents and visitors.

As a three-time National Gold Medal Award-winning agency, BREC is dedicated to ensuring that all parks, recreational facilities, programs, and services are accessible and welcoming to people of every background, without regard to age, race, color, national origin, sex, socioeconomic status, or disability. We work to honor differences, remove barriers, and create opportunities allowing everyone to thrive.

BREC celebrates and affirms the rich diversity of our workforce, drawing strength from the unique perspectives and talents of our team. We foster an inclusive workplace where every individual is valued, respected, and provided with equal opportunities for growth, dignity, and success. We actively embrace the full spectrum of human experiences, including differences in life stories, self-expression, educational journeys, beliefs, cultural heritages, and abilities, to build a more equitable and dynamic organization that reflects and serves our vibrant community.
