Summer Camps

BREC's 2021 Summer Camps

For decades, BREC’s Summer Camps have been an inclusive, family tradition in East Baton Rouge Parish! Parents recognize the quality of BREC’s summer program which is loaded with a diverse curriculum of fun, memory-making activities that are second to none. Campers experience recreational games, community field trips, recreational sports, cultural arts, develop new friendships and more. From recreation and theatre to animals and science, there is a camp for children of all abilities, ages and interests! BREC offers inclusive opportunities to all patrons. If your child has additional needs or behaviors that our staff should know about, we recommend a recreational assessment. Please see Camper Assessments below.

BREC is committed to the health and safety of all campers. All 2021 BREC Summer Camps will observe Covid-19 measures in accordance with the current phase as declared by the governor and will follow federal, state, and local guidelines. At this time, safety measures will include the wearing of masks when appropriate, small groups with limited interaction and increased sanitation in the facilities.

COVID 19 Guidelines in place:

  • Engaging in outdoor activities whenever possible
  • Staff that are not vaccinated are asked to wear masks when indoors or in situations where we are not able to maintain a three foot social distance
  • We break into smaller groups that remain the same throughout the day when we are able
  • We encourage three foot social distancing when we are not actively playing such as during crafts time
  • We support anyone wearing a mask that wants to and we do have disposable masks available
  • We have increased sanitation of the facilities - wiping down surfaces, fountains and doorhandles/knobs, and any items that were used before the next group uses them
  • We sanitize or wash hands anytime we change activities
  • We have assigned seating and spread out for the day on the bus when we attend field trip
Registration for East Baton Rouge Parish residents will open on March 20.

Camper Assessments

Any additional needs or behaviors that our staff should know about?
Camper Assessments are made of all campers that have a disability regardless of the camp desired. Trained BREC staff will assess each camper’s needs and ability level, in order to provide the most meaningful camp experience for each camper. Campers needing increased assistance (toileting, feeding, or more than a 1:5 staff ratio, due to challenging behaviors) may be required to have an aide provided by the parents/guardians. Recreation assessments are performed in order to determine the appropriate camp setting for each camper.

To schedule an appointment for an assessment call 225-272-9200 ext 1561 or email Blaine Imhoff at blaine.imhoff@brec.orgbeginning March 1.
